Bali - General 101 Help
Hi,
I'm going to be in Bali this July and need a few recommendations on:
- Where to stay? (Somewhere not too pricey, but slightly above average)
- Where do dive? (I'm a new diver but PADI certified)
- What to do? (We're there for 4 days; looking for rest and relaxation)
I know these are pretty generic questions, but I've never been before and could use the recommendation.
Any and all help, advice, and tips would be great, so let me know! Thanks!

You need to give us a specific budget for the hotel, as everyone's idea of average is different.
Do you want to stay at the beach or inland, near Ubud (with views of rice terraces and river gorge)? WIll you be there long enough to stay at two different places (at least a week)?
Do you have a guidebook fro Bali? If not, get one. There is much to do and see, and you'll want to balance being on the go with relaxing.
Is the diving a must?

Hi Kathie,
Sorry I'm being so vague! My apologies. I definitely hope to be near the beach as much as possible, and yep, hoping to dive though it's not a "must-have".
Average would be about $100USD a night, I guess? I've never been, so not quite sure what the average hotel prices are like.
Thanks!

The diving is mainly on the north coast of Bali. Since you're only there a short time, I would say Amed is probably the area you want to stay. The diving around here is pretty easy. I did my first dive after being certified on the Tulamben wreck. Travelfish covers this area pretty well, so I'd check out their recommendations for places to stay.

There is a new place in Seminyak, close to the beach, called Grandmas Hotel. Judging from the website, it seems to get the basics right; and costs around USD 40 per night. Check it out....and at that price, you could perhaps stay a few more days, since 4 are not enough for Bali!
