Bali for 10 days need help with budget

Thinking of going to Bali for our second honeymoon. Trip will be about 7 days+ 2 days travel (from Chicago) and 1 day for returning back home. Total 10 days.
We will be going first week of September 2015. Tickets are around $2,800 for the 2'of us. We have Marriott points that can be used at any Ritz Carlton. Hotel for 7 night will be pretty Much free. Need help estimating budget for food and tours.
We are the outdoor type so snorkling, golfing, hiking are cool but also will love to see temples and experience the culture. Please help. Thanks!

I know there are two Ritz Carlton's in the works in Bali, one in Nusa Dua and one in Ubud, but I don't think either one is open yet.

Food -- except for imported items like beef, cheese -- is inexpensive in Bali, but the price range of restaurants varies widely. Two people can have a great Indonesian meal or something casual for US$25 or you can spend $150+ at one of the upscale foodie places. Alcohol, especially good wine, is quite expensive; beer is cheap.

Transport (without guide) is roughly US$10 per hour, a little less for taxis. Guide service, including transport, is around US$100 per day, but could be less. Anything you book through the hotel will be more expensive, plus there's a 21% tax on anything that you charge to your room.

Spa services are a fraction of what they would be in the States, but again, costs vary depending on the luxe factor. It's difficult to estimate activities that involve guides, equipment, travel -- like golf, snorkling, mountain trekking, rafting, bicycling, surfing lessons, cooking classes -- but i would start with a range of US$50 to $100 per event.

On the other hand the beach is free and there's a lot that you can do on your own that doesn't entail a guide or complicated transport.

we pay our guide/driver about 650,000 rp ($~60.) for as much as a $10 hour day.

meals are cheap as marmot says except for the most expensive restaurants. see my trip reports incl the one from this year called "..copy cats.."....

white water rafting is fun near ubud..

Thank you all for your replies. Any other Marriott hotels that you know of in Bali? Beach location please. Thanks!

there is a brand new courtyard in seminyak that should be excellent..

stones location: set sort of alone in the busy kuta like area of legian... void of character.. very unbalish.. across the street from a very very busy beach.
you might love it if you desire a kuta type of place, but we hated it...

It looks like the Ritz-Carlton Nusa Dua will be open by the time of your trip as they are taking reservations on line. Nusa Dua is a purpose built resort enclave. The beaches are nice and the resorts can be lovely, but the area doesn't have much Bali character.

The Marriot Courtyard in Seminyak is a bit further back from the beach, probably a 10 minute walk. It's in a busy area but not too frantic. There's also a Courtyard in Nusa Dua.

The boundaries between Kuta, Legian, Seminyak and Petitenget are somewhat blurred. The Stones is just on the border between Legian and Kuta and the neighborhood has more of a Kuta-ish personality. Kuta is also the name of the overall area -- like a county -- so all of resorts in Legian and Seminyak list Kuta in their addresses. Confusing.

The beaches from Kuta to Double 6 (Jl. Arjuna) are well used -- by surfers, families, hawkers, beach restaurants/bars -- which can be fun or not what you had in mind. As you go further north toward Petitenget they get less crowded, though the surf, at times, can be a bit rougher.

The tides are also quite variable -- some 50 meters difference between very high and very low tide -- so your impression of the beach can vary a good deal depending on the tide and the surge. Stick around, though, it will change.

If you stay in the Kuta, Legian, Seminyak area you need to be aware that the traffic is often gridlock and getting from A to B might mean a time consumind detour.

Sanur is v.close to Bali Airport. Much quieter and less in your face than Kuta and Legian. Nice 5 mile long beach, running north to south with a parallel boardwalk. The beach is protected by a reef and several breakwaters. Lots of restaurants and places for a drink.

Split your time with a few nights in Ubud for the scenery and culture stuff. Takes less than an hour to reach from Sanur
