simpsonc510,

I just spent too many hours binge reading your previous BKK trip reports. Addicting, fun and relaxing. But now I'm way behind in my day!

DS did not win the pool tournament, but it was still a pleasant afternoon, catching up with many friends, including entertainer Lee Shamrock! We had dinner on soi 8 at Via Vai. Always a tasty Italian meal. Too much wine though......a bit groggy this morning.

We have a business lunch in a couple of hours on Tong Lo soi 13 at a place called Roast. We should be a group of about 12 to 15 people. The menu is varied. A good place to have lunch.

Maybe tonight we can head down to Asiatique.

It's so great to be back in Bangkok! I,m certain my doctor would tell me it's good to laugh and enjoy my life to the fullest each and every day. That is exactly what I am doing.

So lolazahra, in your binge reading did you come across the trip report that included meeting Dogster for the first time? What an interesting character, and fabulous writer!

I HATE WINDOWS 10!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I had just typed several paragraphs on my laptop and with the click of a key it's all GONE. UGH.

Starting again......

Lunch at Roast was awesome. The menu is varied, the food is very tasty, as is the coffee. I had a tomato soup with croutons followed by the butternut squash gnocchi. Both excellent. Several people had the ribs and sweet corn. It looked very tender and yummy. The scallops also looked good. Our group of 12 ended up trying a number of things. No complaints! I can recommend ROAST. The location is on Thong Lor soi 17, not soi 13 as I had mentioned previously. You take the sky train to Thong Lor station, but then grab a taxi as it is quite a distance down Thong Lor to The Commons, where the restaurant is located on the 3rd floor. Worth getting off the beaten path! A great place for lunch. They are also open evenings.

Tonight we will meet up with yet another Thai friend at the top of the Sofitel on Sukhumvit (near soi 15). We have been up there a number of times, and the view is awesome from there. The restaurant has very good food. We are going only for after dinner drinks. I think dinner will be at Hemingways on Sukhumvit soi 14.

Weather in Bangkok is very hot. Upper 90s everyday. Means a slower pace and hopping in and out of air con! Now it's time for doing some laundry and relaxing and putting my feet up for a while in our cool apartment.

Exchange rate is right around 35 baht per US$. Not bad. I wish we would get 42 baht like we used to, when I first started coming here. Oh well.....!

I think I will be wearing a wig by the time I go home. My poor hair is seriously thinning (from my on-going chemo) and I may just have it shaved and start wearing my four (4) wigs! One at a time, of course. Sad to see the chunks of hair in the shower and on my comb/brush. Part of my life these days......... I will endure it. I will remain positive about it. I am a fighter and a survivor!

You are a fighter and you are a survivor. This trip is proof positive of that! Have you thought about the scarf look too? My aunt recently figured out to wrap some gorgeous scarfs in multiple ways, which she matched with her outfits and you would never know it was not on purpose! There are a ton of tutorials on You Tube on how to wrap a turban/headwrap.

I looked at the menu for Roast. OMG! Looks awesome. They have an excellent website with gorgeous food shots. And it looks like they have two locations though I could tell the one you went to easily from the address.

Just in case I make it to Bangkok for a few days in July when my daughter finishes her service mission in Northern Thailand, I am taking notes. Otherwise, it will be a while before I get there for the first time, but reading your TR's is still a lot of fun.

The last one I read was in the year 2011 before I had to force myself to start my day. Seriously, I cannot binge like that again. I did not get to Dogster yet, though I have read plenty of his reports when I have researched places where he traveled and/or he chimed in on other people's posts. The fact that he was beloved by a lot of Fodorites shines through.

Glad you were able to add a few days to your trip.

Waiting for more.

I'll put Roast on my list as I think that's the same company that's in EM Quartier. I shop at the Soda/Urban Nomad boutique in EM Quartier which is directly across from what I think is Roast in there. If it is, next time I'll drop in for some bites after shopping at Soda.

Glad you're having a great time.

Happy Travels!

Thanks everyone for the support.

Hemingways was great for dinner. Food and wine were excellent. I had mahi mahi. DH had pizza...again... Lat had seafood pasta. I do have a new issue with Hemingways though. A new bar has moved in right next door and the loud thumping music is very distracting. Hemingways used to feel like a quiet oasis in the middle of this huge city. The staff indicated their displeasure with the new bar.

Did I mention we ha e a newbie here this trip? Jay is a first timer. He is thoroughly enjoying Bangkok. Today we are off on a klong tour. Hope the heat isn't too oppressive!

Tonight we will catch up with musician friend Lee Shamrock at a pub on soi 11. The nachos at this place are the best we have found in Bangkok. The ribs are also good. The beer is cold. Should be a fun night!

Successful shopping with Pong today. I found 3 red pageant dresses! My friend at home can pick the one she wants. Price $48 each! Had my second tuk tuk ride of this trip. Wind in my hair.....!

We are going to dinner at Indigo tonight. Yeah! Great place!

Welcome home Bob. I'll be back on Tuesday. DH and DS will stay on a bit longer. I have to get back to work. So much for retiring in 2004. Haha.

We came in next to last place at Pickled Liver quiz night last night. We gave it a good try. Back to PL to ight for a party.

Have I mentioned that Bangkok is hot? 99 nearly everyday. We still get out and go. I have accomplished what I wanted to do, so now I can relax and enjoy the rest of my stay at a nice easy pace.

Shopping, relaxing, eating, sleeping! Not much to report!

Will be making use of my wigs very soon!! Hair thinning like crazy. Ugh... but as my DH says, I am still this side of the grass.

Looks like our travels will bring us back to Bangkok the last half of August... There is still business to take care of.

Carol, so glad to hear you have enjoyed this trip - despite the heat! It should be less hot in August.

I hope you bought a really wild wig or two to have some fun with the wigs.

Have a good trip home!

Upgrade to 1st class cleared for HKG-ORD!!! Call me happy.

The wigs are ho-hum... except for the long curly one. I don't want to make a wild fashion statement in my quiet little country town. Haha.

Last day in Bangkok means last minute shopping and errands. One last business dinner tonight at Hemingways.

We had a very heavy downpour on Saturday. It lowered the hot temp for a brief period. Glad we were inside when the rain came down by the bucket!

Heading home in less than 24 hours.....always tough to leave, but especially this time as I leave DH & DS here!!
