That's exactly why we used the China Trip Advisor site... so that we could get the deluxe sleeper. We would have no problem with the regular soft sleeper, and had originally planned on that, but then decided that for a little more money, the private bathroom would be nice. Have a great trip!

susan:

Do you have any idea how much a private driver and guide would cost at the hotel in Xian if you bought it from the hotel? To use for 1 day only.

Aloha!

We did ask about the car and driver in Xi'an, and I THINK our hotel said it would be around 200 yuan. This was early in the trip, so I really don't remember it well. I do know it was a lot more than the 8 yuan we paid for the public bus to take us to the Terracotta warriors.

This is a late response, but since there are not a lot on Yunnan, I want to state this - my trip(s) to Yunnan could not have been more opposite the o/p's. I also stayed in the Grand Lijiang, facing the old city, and it was comfortable & quiet - I loved that hotel. I also took the bus tour to Jade Dragon etc & loved it - English speaking Chinese tourists took me under their care & translated all the time. One beautiful & charming hostess stayed at my side all the time on JDM trying out her little Eng. vocab. The last stop on the bus was shopping - detestable,so I taxied back. Dali was uninteresting & must be the most relentlessly noisy city I have ever visited - however the o/p made good use of dali horseback riding etc. The area around Lijiang is some of the most exotic I have seen in the world & I love it there.

Susann..I've been to Kunming and The Stone Forest..but not to Lijiang..HOWEVER, I highly recommned you try to see the movie "Riding Alone for Thousand Miles"...Japanese/Chinese movie, excellent, that takes place mostly in the Lijiang area of Yunnan...fabulous scenes...check it out...It's playing in L.A. and probably most larger cities.

How did you like the Peace Hotel? I had lunch there 22 years ago....and I'm thinking of booking it for my stay in Shanghai.
