No, not late at all. Bangkok remains open till late night. There are lots of night markets which remains open till late night. Yes most hotels (the standard you have mentioned) has refrigerators.

Forgot where u are coming in from but u are likely to need special plugs i.e. adaptors. U could buy a multi purpose travel adaptor which will stand u in good stead on all your travels. Specifically for your cell phone the point for the electric shaver in the loo normally takes a 2 pin charger I find.

the marriott does have small fridges...they are fully stocked so you will need to remove some items temporarily...leave them in full view so you are not charged for them...

the marriott has some american plug styles in the room, but i believe that some in the room are asian style as well and some take both...i believe the hotel will supply you with adapters if you need them or they are readily available around bkk...

it will be way after mid-night when you arrive at the hotel and maybe even 12:30...nothing much will be open around the marriott---at least nothing that you would probably want to do....i think you are coming from LA if i remember correctly so i can assure you that you will not be rested and that that first exposure to the heat and humidity will knock you for a loop....the pool at the marriott will be closed...there may be a bar open at the marriott but i think everything closes at 1.....the boat will be finished for the nite as well...
you could go over to patpong by taxi or one of the other more "go go areas" and look around but i doubt you will have the energy...it might be best to take a walk around the hotel and the mini mall, aquaint yourselves with the lay out and then hit the sack....
by the way there is a 7/11 across the street from the hotel mall which i believe will be open...it is to the right out of the mall parking lot and across the street and down about a block...

aloha....
we are coming in from maui, so heat & humidity will have a minimum impact.
we are staying at the Marriott on the river and Ratt is picking us up at the airport. i dont want to keep her up all nite so we can taxi somewhere close
or maybe just visit the hotel area.

3 days and counting...and questions keep coming to me...fortunatly most
other posters have asked the same pertinent questions...
mahalo....

if you compare maui with bkk you are comparing ice with hot tea....no comparison for heat and humidity...jst a warning...

I don't think people quiet grasp the concept that BKK is the HOttest capital city in the world.. (daily avarges)...

No one complains about the heat more then the locals.. they are not even used too it.

Diva, even though you are coming from Hawaii, I expect you'll be tired when you get to Bangkok. Your arrival time is perfect for a fast adjustment to Bangkok time. You can go to bed and wake up the next morning almost on Bangkok time.

The air pollution thing is overblown IMHO. Unless you have a respiratory problem- or are riding a TuK Tuk and get stuck in traffic - I don't think the air will bother you nearly as much as the heat/humidity.

i agree with bill...the air is not nice but it is not all foggy and brown...if you use taxis and the skytrain you will not even notice...when you are at the pool you would think you are at the big island...

Yes it can be very very hot, my tip is lay off heavy foods and keep a bottle of water with you, B9-10(about 25c) buys a bottle from 7-11 with a 'drinking cap' on it so you open to dribk, close to secure, guess you know what I mean. Keep away from fatty heavy breakfast foods, I sweat far far less than I ever used do and I am sure it has a lot to do with the food!! You can always find cold drinks everywhere but remember nothing beats pure simple water to help keep you cool, and of course wear natural materiel loose fitting clothes.
