I pack by first deciding which bag I want to use. Then I get out everything I want to take. Then I put the least needed things back (in the closet, drawer) until what I have left fits in the bag.

I was trying to delete my packing advice in order to focus on packing light. Of course, when I bring out the bag the ball gown is already in it from the last trip, so can't be forgotten.

We all have different approaches. I, for one, can't imagine wearing socks at the temples. And I stay somewhere in Bangkok where they do all of my laundry for free, so no detergent. And the ballgown is not de riguer for me, but the tiara is.

One other thing - make sure you call all of your credit card companies and the bank that issues your ATM card to tell them where you will be. Also, get the number to call from a foreign country (collect) if there are problems with your card.
