Hi. I'm planning to spend the first half of May in Bali and would like to add 4 days to the trip to visit Angkor Wat. However, I'm getting mixed reviews on how weather in May will impact our experience.
Anyone been and May and willing to share?
Thanks

I was there at the end of May a few years ago. The weather was fine...hot, but fine. No rain or storms.
I would not let a few comments about potential weather issues dissuade you from going in May.
Have a great trip.
Are you planning to connect Bali-Siem Reap via Air Asia?

Weather in May will be hot. Actually, weather all year round in Siem Reap is hot and humid. May is one of the hotter months. We were there in November and it was hot, May will be hotter. see http://www.weatherbase.com/weather/w...s=66984&refer=
Will that interfere with your enjoyment of the temples? I really don't think so. The traditional way to visit the temples is to go out early, as near dawn as possible, and tour temples until perhaps noon. Go back to your hotel from lunch and maybe a swim to cool off. Go back out to the temples about 3 and stay until sunset. Avoiding the middle hottest part of the day and hiring a car and driver with air conditioning and you'll be fine.
Do you have a guidebook to the temples yet? Dawn Rooney's book, Angkor will help prepare you.

I don't mind the heat at all - it was flooding I was worried about.
I think we will go ahead and plan Cambodia in to our trip.
cruisinred - I was planning to connect to Siem Reap via Bangkok. I would prefer to fly directly to Siem Reap but I couldn't find a direct flight DPS to REP. If you know of an option, I would love the information. I was planning to book air LAX-DPS (with a layover in BKK) and on the return DPS-BKK with a stop over in BKK and then BKK-LAX and booking the flight to Siem Reap for return BKK-REP. However, I would love to skip the stopover in BKK on the way to Siem Reap.
Recommendations for a hotel in Siem Reap? Would like to stay under 100USD. Would like to have a pool and walking distance to town.

Or, a less expensive option is Air Asia from Bali to KL, then another Air Asia flight KL to Siem Reap. But, since Air Asia is a budget carrier, they will not transfer your luggage so you'll have to go through immigration and customs and check in again at the Air Asia desk.
There is a lot of accommodation in SR for a lot less than $100. (Often with a pool) I pay $15US at the Ancient Angkor guest house and that has a nice, albeit small pool.
Personally I use a tuk tuk in preference to over air conditioned cars. I don't like the abrupt changes in temperature. You are in the tropics after all!

I forgot to mention that my daughter's house in Siem Reap was flooded last September. May should be dry.
