Airport Transportation in Singapore

Hello there

I need to get from Changi to a hotel near the Marina. What are the options? How much should a taxi be and what are the shared minibuses? Are they like the shuttle buses at major US airports? Thanks in advance for your reply.

Hi, here are a couple of options you can always rely on, although taxis cost from S$2.50 onwards, and an extra S$1 if flag after 6pm.

1) Train - Only if you're arriving before 12 midnight, because the last train arrives at close to 12. The train station is right at the airport itself, so no worries.

2) Bus - SBS or TIBS Buses are the main transport buses in Singapore. Go to www.streetdirectory.com.sg to look up buses which you can take and routes too.

3) If you're interested, you can hire minibuses to charter you. I only know of one flexible service which I usually hire when I have business friends coming down to visit me in Singapore. If you want, I can give you the company's number.

Cheers and have a wonderful time in Singapore!

-Tracy

Taxis downtown cost about Sin$18-22. There is a limo service about Sin$7. The MRT operates until 2308.

Get a taxi from the rank outside.
Don't bother with the taxi touts.
We found a 'london cab' reasonably priced and really courtious.
(The driver was ok too !)
Seems to be the norm in this lovely country.

Muck

You must be thinking of Bangkok or KL. There are no taxi touts at Changi. YOu must be refering to the guys outside the gate holding signs who are actually limo drivers waiting for their pre-booked passengers.

Yes, there are taxi 'touts' in SIN! I arrived at 1:45am--after a long 7 hr flight from NRT & a 14 hr flight from EWR, and beyond my better judgement took a taxi from a 'tout' at Changi. I knew the rate should be around S$30, but it was late, I was tired and he told me S$47!! Last time I'll ever do that. On my return a couple of days later, when I had to leave my hotel at 4am for a 6:10am flight the cost was S$21.20-- (which includes the 50% surcharge between midnight & 6am) I gave the driver S$24, which would have included a tip, surprisingly he gave me back S$2, saying I paid too much, and would only accept a total of S$22!

Hi ;
Sorry Wayne there are Taxi touts, we we accosted 3 times in Singapore but having been 'stung' by a recklace idiot in Hong Kong we were luckily very conscious of it.
They grap the heavily laden people fresh off a long haul, not too difficult to recognise I guess.
Cheers

Rich
