Airport Taxi in Bangkok for 4 adults plus luggage
Hi,
Just wanted to know if catching a taxi that will fit 4 adults plus luggage will be easy at the airport taxi stand? I have read that some 'wagon' type taxis are available, but not sure if there are plenty available or will we have to wait a long time to get one?
If they are available, roughly how much will it cost? or are we better off organising a private car service? We are a group of 4 girls and would rather not be separated in two taxis.
Any assistance you can provide is greatly appreciated.
Thank you!

I took one the other day and they did not use their meter. Price are subject to negotiation so expect to pay from 500 - 800 Baht for the trip to downtown Bangkok. If you want a similar size vehicle form a limo company then the price is usually double.

Go with the limo company (AOT) - there's a desk in the baggage claim area on the arrivals hall side. You'll pay a little more but their London cab should be able to accommodate the four of you and your luggage. Prices are fixed.

on an initial arrival in bkk, i always use a limo svc, if for no other reason than i am very tired... the cost would be 900-1200 B....
they usually use mercedes sedans or toyota camrys... of course it all depends on the size of your luggage.... they might suggest a van to you which would cost more...as much as 2000 B....

Back in January I had no trouble getting taxis FROM Bangkok airport to use their meters - the arguments came going TO the airport. E.g. from the airport to the Ibis Riverside cost me 260 + 70 for tolls + 50 for the airport tax (tax going from the airport only). But I doubt four adults and a lot of luggage would fit. Don't see the point of the limo service for one or two people, you just take the escalator down one level and the official taxi stands are right there.

I always use AAC limo in Bangkok. They offer sedans and they also offer Mercedes vans (which is what I'd recommend for you). www.aaclimousine.com
Their prices are listed on their website. The website also show the tolls to the various hotels (tolls are always extra, and yes, you want them to use the expressway). To my hotel, it costs 1100 baht plus 70 baht in tolls for the Mercedes sedan, and it would be 1500 baht plus 70 in tolls for the van.
Book in advance via email. They meet you (with a sign) as you come out of baggage claim. We always book roundtrip, so get a 10% discount.

Thanks so much for all the responses and suggestions.
Initially I thought it wouldn't be hard catching a taxi from the airport (armed with all the useful information and warnings from this forum) but now I think I will use the AOT or the AAC service instead.
Thank you all once again!

With due respect to the opinions of others, I really cant see the point in paying extra for the Limo service, it is just a complete waste of money.
Even if you have no negotiation skills, a station wagon type taxi, at the official rank, will be more than happy to take you to most parts of the city for 700baht, including tolls. On all of our trips to Bangkok, there have been several of this type of vehicle immediately available. Most of the ones that we have used have accepted an offer of 500baht. Why pay more?
You may find that most of the sedans will struggle to fit 4 large cases and your carry-on, so you will be forced into a van as I dont think they use wagons.... 1500 baht vs 700. The difference in price will buy the 4 of you a massage.

I would recommend you to go to taxi counter which located at Platform of Passenger Terminal on the 1st Floor, Gates 4 and 7. This will be available 24 hours. Fare charged according to the distance traveled plus a fee of THB 50 for the driver. You will have to pay for toll way.
You may ask them for bigger taxi that look like small van
Hope this information is helpful for you
Enjoy your trip in this wonder land

Yes, i understand your point. If you go in the queue and you are lucky to get the big taxi for that then they will go for meter +50 fees + toll way. But if you didn't get that when you got the queue for taxi, you may ask for bigger taxi in which they will not go for meter. Instead, they will ask for the price of about 600-700 THB to city. This type of taxi always available at the airport. It just that will you get that when it's your turn or not. Like what i've mentioned earlier, you may ask for it as per your request

i find the girls who book the taxis to be very co-operative, and they will get you what you need...
i don't think the meter thing will be an issue...just insist that they use the meter...
when you see how long the ride is you will see that even at a flat rate you have a bargain...
