Agoda + Myanamar?
Hi,
Has anyone used Agoda to book hotels in Myanmar before? I've used Agoda before, but for Myanmar, I am confused how that would work since they are a cash only country...
Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks!

Just returned from a wonderful trip there and, yes, I agree with Hanuman, a local travel agent is best. Or, the hotel site(if they have one).
When I was planning my trip.I could not get anything out of Agoda...Rooms were never available when I needed it...Also,remember that it always takes them a couple days (at least) to respond.Patience is of essence...

Agoda or any other booking site can work to book a hotel in Burma. How they get the money to the hotel is not something you have to deal with. I booked one of my hotels in Burma through a Thai booking site and it all went smoothly.
A local agent may be able to get you better prices than a booking site.
I'm planning a return trip, and I will be using a local agent to book hotels and flights for me. Some agents can arrange for you to transfer money to their Thai bank account so you don't have to bring the whole cost of your trip in cash.

Would love to incorporate a boat trip and am defiantly going to do a balloon ride.

We are planning to use Santa Maria again. First trip, we only used them for flights and a driver to Kakku and to reserve the balloon ride which never got off the ground. We plan to go to Mandalay and Mrauk U for sure and a couple of days in Yangon.
Nikki, travel in Burma is slow, air schedules are odd and flights are often "milk runs" - you can't schedule yourself too closely. To do 4 locations but I'd say you need at least 12-14 days. We did three locations last trip. I expect you've read my report from a year ago.

I did Yangon - Inle Lake - Mandalay - Bagan - Yangon entirely by car (wanted to give the least possible money to the government) and it took 14 days (including arrival and departure). I certainly wouldn't have wanted to do it any faster, although if you fly you would save a day or two.

Thanks guys, I think I will have around 10-13 days in Burma and then hopefully NYE and a few days in BKK but we will see....... Not sure I will do all by car as I get travel sick (especially if the roads are not in great quality plus I drive A LOT as I cover a largish area for work), so maybe I will do a mix of several types of transport!
