Adelphi Suites Bangkok NICE
Thought I'd just start a thread on this hotel, since folks asked me to report back on it. I'm also talking about it on my "back in Bangkok" thread.
I'm in BKK right now, staying at the Adelphi. I can report that it is a very good choice for us. The location is great, just a couple of minutes from the ESCALATOR going up to the skytrain at Nana. For those of you who have not been to BKK yet, the escalators are not always easy to find. Most of the time you are hoofing it up about 3 flights of stairs to get to the skytrain.
Our apartment has a really nice bathroom with both soaking tub and walk-into shower with rainbath shower head and shower "wand" too.
We have a livingroom/kitchen/dining combination. There is a sofa, which is not really comfy as the back of it is waaaaay back. You need pillows behind you to sit with any comfort at all. But there are a few little pillows, so it's OK.
The kitchen has a 2- burner stove, a microwave, a fridge, and a washer dryer combination. There is plenty of space in cupboards and closets in every room, including the bath. We have a few dishes but no cooking pots. There is a hot water pot and packets of instant coffee and tea. There are pay-as-you-go mini bar items in the fridge which we have not purchased. 7-11 is right next door so you can buy water, instant soup, pop, yogurt, etc.
There are floor to ceiling windows in the livingroom and bedroom. I love all the natural lighting that it lets in. When I stayed at the Majestic Grande a year ago, I had a hard time in what seemed like such a dark room, with only one smallish window. I like to let the light in. The view is nice from 8th floor.
There is a pool on the 16th floor, along with a gym with machines. Only four deck chairs. One small table with four chairs. I have not been around the pool when it has been busy so have never had to just stand around. I've found a place to sit down. Now, if the pool was busy, you might be hard pressed to find a place to park yourself!!
The breakfast buffet is quite good and plenty of selection to eat until you are full. You can get eggs cooked to order. It is not quite the spread as I had at the Holiday Inn Ploenchit last year, where they had foods to suit all sorts of Western and Asian tastes.
I can happily report that the Adelphi Suites is a good choice, so far, and I hope to stay here again in April.

Wow Carol it sounds perfect. We will be there in July and I have emailed them with our dates...they came back at $125 per night with an additional $25 per night for an additional bed. I thought this was a bit high but maybe I'm just cheap.
What site did you book your room through and do you recall how much you are paying per night?
Also, is the sofa a sofa bed?

That sounds like a steep price to me. But then, I am not sure that we will be given the price we were quoted when I originally booked here. I booked directly with the hotel. At that time, I was quoted a 3-night price (DH was only going to opt for 3 nights just to try out the place, but then decided to stay put) and it averaged out to about $3300 per night (or about $100+ taxes) I certainly hope this rate is honored. We are here for 19 nights. As busy as the place is, I assume they realize they can get a lot more for their suites. It's a very nice place and the location is really a PLUS.
The sofa is not a sofa bed, but it is definitely big enough to sleep on. It is very deep and long (unless a person is over 6' that is)

Before I forget, I should make a few comments about the washer dryer that is in our kitchen. We've used it a couple of times. It works great as a washer, but it isn't the type of dryer that we are used to in the US. It spins really fast and gets out the bulk of the moisture in the clothes, but then you have to hang them to dry before you dare put then away or wear them. And in this humidity, they take a while to hang dry! I miss not having a balcony here at Adelphi. The clothes might dry faster outside if we had a balcony. That's the one thing I'd really like, that I don't have here.

OK, I hate to be proven wrong... but DH just showed me that there really IS a drying function on this contraption in the kitchen. It is timed at 2 hours. DH says you only put things like underwear and tshirts and jammies in the dryer because they get wrinkled (but dry). He tried drying shirts his first time using the machine and they were a mess. He had to send them out to the laundry!! lol
Anyway, I have jammies drying right now, and we'll see how they turn out. (smile)

Sorry I forgot to report on the rate we're paying. We just now checked with the front desk. We are paying just over $106, and that includes taxes. Not a bad price for what we have here! I'm going to ask about rates for April. We'll see what they tell me...

Carol...Didn't you pack the Bounce? I put the sheets in a plastic ziplock bag and throw them into the suitcase if I'm going to be somewhere where I have washer/dryer access.The clothes come out much nicer. I throw 2 sheets in. Heat up the dryer, with the Bounce sheets in it first, and then throw in the wet clothes.
The first time I had a washer/dryer at my building in BK, I had one that was all in one...a mess...some kind of French-made machine. I'd never seen such. The washer turns into a dryer. It takes forever to dry since the machine is really wet when one is reprogramming it over to the dryer part. Plus, you can't start washing another batch of clothes while the clothes are drying because the washer is now the dryer. Headache.
I was hoping for either two separate machines or the double-decker ones like we have here in the States. Happy Travels!

carol....i don't know why you could not wash and dry at the same time...guen just couldn't figure it out....i'll send andy over to show you how...

Just checked rates on line and they are the same as we are paying right now.

Just had a shampoo for 150 baht almost right next door to Adelphi, here on soi 8. Yah is very nice, a friend of Maeng, who introduced us just yesterday. I decided to give Yah a try. That's like $5 for a shampoo and blow dry.
I can report that there are NO SALES at Shanghai Tang right now. I just was there about two hours ago. But nice stuff there.. guen, they didn't seem to have our twin elephant polo shirts.

I will check again but I have a feeling they quoted me for an extra large room, like a family suite...our friends who are going to be traveling with us were quote a little less. I asked for a seperate bedroom (with a door) as we will have our daughter with us. So maybe that's why we were quoted a higher price.
For staying 19 nights they should offer to lower your rate a little bit. It might be worth an ask...but maybe not. I hate coming across like a cheap american when it is already such a bargain!
Glad to hear you learned how to use that fandangald dryer...It'd be so nice to have a W/D in your room while on vacation, esp in a big dirty city! I think that's a selling point for me right there!

The apartment we are in is the largest one they offer on line. It does have a separate door to the bedroom/bath. I don't know about a "family suite"... wondering what it is.
For my April/May dates the rate is the same as now, $106 per night, and that includes the taxes.
BTW, the clothes just came out of the dryer, after a 2-hour cycle, and they still feel "damp" a little bit, so they are hanging in the shower. So maybe I was right that the dryer isn't exactly what we are used to in the US... lol.

One more question Carol,
Are there additional bed linens in the apartment to make up the sofa as a bed? (sheets, pillow, blanket if need be...) If there are then we could just do that for our daughter instead of having a bed brought in and being charged an additional $25 pn.

I don't see any extra bed linens, but one could ask, I suppose. As far as putting an extra bed in the apartment, I'm not sure where it would fit! I do see them in the hallway when someone is moving in or moving out... should try to peek in the room and see where they put it. I think it would be a bit of a squeeze... ?? and as I said, we have what is considered to be one of the "large" apartments.
If you really need more space, you might take a look at Somerset Suwan Park View. It is also serviced apartments. The location is also very good, although the walk to the skytrain is just a tab bit longer. Somerset apartments are not as modern as Adelphi, but very comfortable, and they have balconies. You can get a 2-bedroom apartment there. Not sure of the price.

Anyway, when I asked about a family of three, he said that they would usually put in the extra bed.

DO try the Rojo restaurant in the lobby at Adelphi. I had lunch in there today (actually I dined outside on the verandah). I was impressed with the food and the presentation. Nice variety of items on the menu!

Thanks for your reports on the Adelphi, we stayed at Centrpoint Silom on our last visit and we were looking for something similar for later this year and the location sounds great. Just a note on the washer/dryer combination. They are a different style of dryer, they are called a condensor dryer rather than the vented dryer that you are used to. They dont have a fan/element and they dont vent the hot/moist air into the room. THey extract moisture and "condense" it back to water which is pumped out the hose, rather than cook your clothes and they work best with a small load. If the washer has a 5kg capacity it will onle effectively dry 2.5kg so if you use a smaller load you might get better results.

Yep, I agree with everything you've just said about the dryer. That is exactly what it is. We have only been doing small loads as it is a small capacity machine. It is so nice to have it here in the apartment though! Even if we DO have to hang things up to finish drying completely.

Carol you're the best! So sweet of you to poke around the hotel and ask questions for us. I will check out the other hotel you spoke about.

Thought I'd pass along something I just found out. I just went down to the front desk here at Adelphi to inquire about a booking for my next visit, in April. The front desk could tell me that there is availability (which I knew from the internet site), but the front desk could NOT offer me the same rate as the web site. Internet booking saves you 200 baht per night. I asked about the same executive apartment we now have, and instead of 3499 the rate was 3699. I'll be sure to book what I need just as soon as I get back home! I don't want to lose my lovely apartment.
