A glimpse inside a typical Japanese home...sort of...
These are actually photos from Teaghan's 9th birthday party. We live in a typical house, in a typical neighborhood, in Kanazawa. You can see a bit of the inside of the house (part of it anyway) and the surrounding area and park across the street.

Delightful! What a clever party for a lucky girl. My daughter just turned 19 -- do enjoy these at-home years before you find yourself bringing a birthday cake to a dorm room or apartment.
I have always been intrigued by Japanese domestic architecture but haven't seen any aside fom an exhibit at the Boston Children's Museum. You seem to have a great deal of space, both indoors and out, which flies in the face of what one expects.
We all loved the short (11 day) trip that we took as a family to Tokyo and Kyoto. We only saw public and commercial spaces on that trip though. Thank you for sharing the photos of a family home. Happy birthday to Teaghan.

Happy Birthday, Teaghan. Teaghan is getting very more beautiful! What a lovely girl she is!
What a shame you are not going to Ankor Wat this Christmas. It would have been fun for the girls to be together.
Rebbe came to NYC with her mother for her birthday treat. We saw "Wicked". Rebbe LOVED it. Put it on your list for your next time in NY.

Kanazawa is very good living I think. We do have a large house. I don't know how many square feet of meters, but it is 6 or 7 or 8 rooms, depending on how you count them. The house is 2 floors. The living room is actually one room that can be divided into two rooms with doors...we keep it as one.
Our personal outside space is very small....a tiny nakaniwa (inside garden) and a large parking space for one car directly in front of the house. The big grassy space is the very nice park across the street. The neighborhood is very old so has very narrow curving streets so no traffic other than residents. We can walk to the downtown area of Katamachi and Kohrimbo in 10 minutes..quicker to walk than drive or take the bus.
emd - you are welcome to visit anytime. I can't promise a party, but we do have beds (rather than futons)!
