Yes getting tired will be an issue still. So we rented a machiya so that we can have a comfortable place to spend time if we have to take an afternoon break.
Our place is a little South of the Train Station and we are there 4 nights.
These are all great ideas. One class could be a good idea. I will hunt around (temples: not sure where you find those classes but in particular wood block and will Google). The cat, owl, pug etc. cafe would be a huge hit! Thank you. Manga museum for sure. Temples for sure. Poking around shops for sure. Picking up food at Nishiki Market (including the pickles!).
We will probably go one afternoon to Lake Biwa to visit some friends who have a house there.
One day we are planning on an afternoon in Nara.
And of course.... looking for great places to eat (I remember in Kyoto it is hard to find bad food).
emd3: no apologies needed. I am very sorry for your loss and can see how writing about your trip could bring back the happy memories you shared.
