2 nights in singapore

Hello all:

We scheduled a 2 night layover in singapore on our way back from a Bali honeymoon. Anyone have some good hotel, dining, and sight suggestions. Also, where is the airport located relavent to the city itself. We have a 600 am flight back to the states, and wondering how close everything is.

Thanks
LN

Larry -

Everything is very close, don't worry. We stayed at the Ritz ($200/night with killer view) and it was only about 15-20 minute taxi ride from the airport.

Everything is very, very organized in Singapore. You'll have no problem at all getting to your flight.

For what it's worth, I think you're doing Singapore in the best way possible, on a layover and not spending much (if any) extra to get there. Singapore doesn't have the charm other places in Asia do but it is worth seeing.

For dinner, try Bice (pronounced Bee-Chay) at the Goodwood Park Hotel. Great pasta. You should also go see Newton Circus while in town just because. It's an institution. An outdoor market of food stalls which are pretty good but not nearly as cheap as street food should be.

A great place for morning coffee and such is the Raffles Bakery. It's located on one side of the hotel facing Raffles City. Look it up, I'm sure you'll find it. The most amazing ginger cake. Not gingerbread, ginger cake. It was a very dark and moist cake and you could see the little pale yellow fibers of fresh ginger running through it. Yummy!

Also visit Chjimes. We visited on our last day before our plane left so not much was open but it looked like a great place to people-watch and get something to eat.

Have a great time and let me know if you have any questions.

Lynn
<BR

Hi Larry!
Singaporeans LOVE to eat so you will find many great restaurants. Doc Chengs at the Raffles Hotel is great...it is outside and it does a West/East fusion menu. Chijmes has a number of restaurants and shops that are worth a look. Shrooms is a good one there. If you like seafood, go to the East Coast Seafood Center and try their pepper or chili crab. Fantastic!

Singapore is a small island with most things concentrated in the "city" area. So I recommend staying in the Orchard road area or the marina area. That is where the Ritz is that the above poster mentioned. The Marina Mandarin is also good there as well as the Westin. There is a Mariott, Hyatt and Hilton on Orchard Road.

I highly recommend seeing the Night Safari. It is a great experience and no other zoo in the world has anything like it.

Congratulations and enjoy your honeymoon!

Larry: We stayed as well for two nights in Singapore after a holiday in Bali. I was not terribly interested in all the shops and did not find it very cheap either. All these malls made me nervous after the calm in our Bali resort.
We went to the Zoo. You can do it by the underground and to Jurong (sp?) bird park and enjoyed both a lot.
Definitely visit the Raffles Hotel for tea or a drink at the Long Bar (?).
As recommended, go to Newton Circus in the evening.
Everything is very clean in Singapore and well organized. But it lacks definitely a bit of charm. Even the small chinatown area seems to be built up for tourists. But all in all, a good way to get used to Western life again after a definitely unique experience in Bali which I hope you will have.

Hi there, as a Singaporean, I recommend that you should spend one day at Sentosa Island, one day in town (Orchard Rd) and one night at the Night Safari. Singapore is a food lover's paradise. We are a multi-cultural society and hence we eat a variety of food..yum! You can go to the website below to find out more. Enjoy your stay. http://food.asia1.com.sg/gdfd/gdfd.html
