Our trip is planed end of Feb 2011
Hanoi 3 nights
fly to Dong Hoi for 3 nights
train to Hue for 2 nights
train to Danang for 5 nights in Hoi An
fly to HCMC for 4 nights
fly back to Hanoi for 3 nights
We want to take our time, relax and not rush about, eat good food and get to explore each area in more detail.

My trip has been postponed to end Feb too - you're leaving out Halong Bay, Sapa, and the Mekong Delta!

Roonn, I'm guessing Weymouth likes "slow travel", given the number of nights planned for Hanoi, HoiAn and Saigon, all of which can be "seen" in much less time if he were so inclined. (If it were me, knowing how we travel and what we saw and didn't see on our trip last year, I'd add one night to Hanoi at the beginning, subtract two nights from HoiAn, two nights from Saigon and all three nights from Hanoi at the end, giving him 6 days to venture elsewhere, but hey, that's me!)

In HCMC we stayed at Bich Duyen Hotel District 1 approx. $15 to $23 per night depending on size of room and if it had a window, we emailed Chang 8 weeks before we went and paid when we got there. There were lots of little hotels down the lane way so you could probably just turn up and stay at any of these. Blue River hotel was next door and we stayed one night there also. The lane was called Pham Ngu Lao and it was quiet, no traffic noise. This area I thought was great to stay, lots of cheap restaurants. We got hotel to pick us up from airport and it cost $17. All these small hotels offer tours for about $10 to the tunnels on air con bus. Mekong delta day tour about $12 & overnight tour in home stay or hotel about $28. No need to book any tours or plane fares until you get there. We also used the sinh tourist local travel agent, the have offices in the main cities, but look out for the fake offices, the website lists where there offices are and their tour prices. They can organise flights as well. Website: http://www.thesinhtourist.vn to see what they offer.
We loved Mekong delta, but wished we had done overnight home stay.

I've gotta agree with sf7307 and don't think you will feel too rushed anywhere with the days allotted.
