1-2nights Japanese Alps - where and what?
HI Guys,
Travelling to Japan with my husband in October this year for 2 weeks.
Contemplating on staying Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka and would like to squeeze in 1-2 nights in the Japanese Alps travelling from either Tokyo or Kyoto (whichever is closest and easiest)
What do you suggest? Is it worth the trip for 2 days? If so where is the best place to stay to experience quaint/picturesque beauty, onsen, near by places that are must-see. There are many cities such as Takayama, Matsumoto etc but its all too confusing. If I had to pick one place to stay that was close to other things to do and see/exerpeince in the 2 day timespan where would that be? Don't want it to be too touristy and nor too quiet.
Thanks I'm so looking forward to get some insight from you all
Regards

If you have a minimum of two nights, I'd say it's worth considering. With only one night, no.
I had a lovely stay in Karuizawa at a resort hotel run by the Hoshinoya brand, I would love to revisit, it's a wonderful space.

Are you spending the night in Osaka? Why? I would add it to the Alps. See:

Don't get the Osaka bit. It's a big bustling city like Tokyo. It does NOT have the charm or unique historical character of Kyoto. It is also 25-30 minutes from Kyoto by train, so why change lodgings when you can hop a short ride from Kyoto station?

If you have 2 nights, you could spend both in Matsumoto. One day to see the incredible castle and rest of the city. The second day for hiking through Kamikochi which should be near peak for fall colors, depending on what time in Oct. you plan to be there.
