Would this be covered in open jaw on frequent flier award?

Some of you told me about open jaw when I request frequent flier. I am not sure if this would be covered but wanted to check before I applied. The JFK to BOS is on an American Eagle. Thank you as usual.

SAN to JFK
JFK to BOS
BOS to SAN

Are you asking if you can book an award ticket for this route? If so, That shouldn't be a problem, assuming the airline (American/American Eagle) has award seats available on the dates you want to travel.

As long as you start and end in the same city, you should have no difficulties.

That would be a round-trip itinerary, with JFK as a connection or a stopover. Or maybe BOS is a connection or stopover.

An open jaw might be, for example:

SAN to JFK
BOS to SAN

with you getting somehow on your own (train, car, another airline that isn't built into your ticket) between New York and Boston.

The OP is going to stop in New York. It is not a simple roundtrip, but a "multi-city award" with three legs.

Since the OP wants to fly the front cabin for the SAN-JFK and BOS-SAN leg, those will cost 25K each for MileSAAver or 50K for AAnytime. The JFK-BOS leg will cost 12.5K for MileSAAver or 25K for AAnytime, as it only has coach.

In short, that JFK-BOS leg is not free. The OP should also consider taking the train (which is more comfortable with less hassle) or bus.

What does op stand for?..

I am not sure what Mile Saaver means as opposed to AAnytime..can I choose?...sorry I am so dense.

I think you are saying the JFK to BOS leg would cost more miles, not give me a front comfy seat, and be a large hassel..and that the train would be better.Since we will be at my sister in NJ, she could take us to the train at Metro Park or we could do Continental out of EWR.Am I correct?

Other question...the guru shows only first class on the 757 ...no business class are they one and the same?.

Many many thanks..

The plane is a 757 I think (got this from itasoftware). It shows only first class but no business class.

OP = Original Poster = loisco = you.

AA's award is charged by each "leg". For you itinerary, if you do SAN-JFK, then later JFK-BOS, and then BOS-SAN, that's three legs. If you do SAN-JFK, and then BOS-SAN, that's two legs. Either way, on aa.com, you still book them using the "multi-city" link. Not one-way, not round-trip.

When you choose an award flight, there are two levels of miles they can charge you. MileSAAver is 12,500 miles for each leg of domestic travel in coach, while AAnytime is 25,000. Difference is that MileSAAver seats are limited, while AAnytime has a lot more seats (or last seat availability as long as the flight is not sold out; not sure which way AA does things). That's the difference between the two.

AA has two different 757 configurations. The one they use for SAN-BOS is the domestic one, which has 22 domestic first class seats and 166 coach. [The other version has 16 international business class seats, but that does not apply to you.]

By the way, the train is definitely the best way to from New Jersey to Boston. Acela Express takes as little as 4hr17min from Metropark to Boston S. Station. It's not cheap though, as $115. Acela Regional trains are cheaper, but can take an hour longer.

the OP, loisco, is looking for First Class award seats.
http://www.fodors.com/community/air-...-back-east.cfm

So, each leg will be either 25000 miles for MileSAAver; or 50000 miles for AAnytime award.

More ?? (I am a glutton, aren't I)

1. I can't find Metropark on Amtrak listing??? I thought it was in NJ...we took it a long time ago but I can't find it.

2. if I call aa for the ff tickets do I ask for the cheaper MileSaaver...or do they give it to you automatically...or should I try and do it online (makes me nervous)...

3.if we decided to take Continental to Boston from NJ..and I got a round trip ticket...could I not use the return till a later date off in the future? way off!!

Again thanks...

loisco,

2) If you call AA to book the tickets, you will be charged a phone fee (can't remember if it's $10 or $20 per ticket). You won't have to pay that fee if you book it yourself online. However, if you're not comfortable booking it online, then you should definitely call AA and have them do it for you.

When you call, you don't need to tell them if you want MileSaaver or AAnytime. If there are MileSaaver seats available, the agent will automatically book you those. You just need to tell them you want FIRST class, NONSTOP, for ___ flight on ___ date. I gotta tell you though, your chance of getting these seats for Milesavver is very unlikely. Be ready to shell out miles for AAnytime award seats.

loisco:

1. Iselin - Metropark
3. Sure. You can even NOT fly the return. Anyways, don't fly EWR-BOS in late afternoon. The delays can be hours-long. If you want to fly, fly early.
