Worried about flight connection

We are not frequent travelers and I'm a bit of a worrier. We will be travelling from Louisville to Burbank on Southwest Airlines.

The flight stops in Phoenix with a 35 minute layover and a plane change.

Is that enough time? That is the way Southwest has scheduled it so they must think it is enough, right?

We would not have to pick up and recheck our luggage in Phoenix would we? I assume they would handle that.

Also, am I correct that we would not have to go through security again unless we left the gate area?

Thanks so much for your help and, I hope, words of reassurance that all will be well.

What day/flights are you on? The only Southwest flights from Louisville to Burbank through Phoenix either have a 1hr layover (7:30am departure) or have no change of planes (#1923)

35min is tight on any airline, but Southwest is known for their efficient, fast turn around operations. You would not touch your luggage until you arrive at BUR. You would not have to go through security again at Phoenix.

OK, I see the 7am departure has a 35min layover starting in November. Worst case they will put you on a later flight, departing Phoenix 1:30 pm or so.

You are correct that your luggage will be checked all the way through and that you won't have to go through security again.

If your first flight is on time, you'll have no problem. If it isn't....the worst case secenario is NOT being put on the next flight. That flight could be full and I don't know if SW has agreements with any other airlines.

abram is correct, the next flight might be full. But Southwest has 6-8 non-stops a day from PHX to BUR, so odds are quite favorable you'd get on a later flight IF you missed the connection. I don't believe SW will put you on another airline.

Your luggage should be checked all the way thru, you shouldn't have to claim it in Phoenix (just ask when you check in and make sure the suitcase is tagged that way).

Hopefully you will just be going gate to gate in the same wing of the terminal (definitely you won't have to go thru security).

I also won't worry about it. Other than having to de-ice in the winter, there's little reason for an early SDF-PHX flight to be late.

Thanks so much for the quick replies. We are traveling in march and I think it is a new route.

I'm very glad to know there are multiple flights from Phoenix in case of delay.

You all have made me feel much better!
