The UK should be the highest now. For a roundtrip from the US, they charge £40 "Air Passenger Duty" (£80 if flying business or first). And then there's a "Passegner Service Charge" that depends on the airport. For example:
Stansted £7.9
Gatwick £8
Manchester £9.4
Edinburgh & Glasgow £10.9
Birmingham £11.1
Belfast £13
Heathrow £14.1
Bristol £16.9
That's easily $100 or more right there, and doesn't include what the US charge.
I can't think of anywhere with higher taxes and fees.
Reason: the UK government wants your money. Does any government in the world needs a reason to tax?

Andreszj, if you only transit the UK to another country, you will not need to pay the Air Passenger Duty.
If your destination is the UK, you are screwed and will have it to pay it regardless.
If the APD would influence whether you would spend your vacation in the UK or Polakistan, you would need your head testing and you would probably need to surrender your passport. If you are going to be so principled, I wouldn't bother going home to your overly intrusive and demeening US airports.
That said, I do agree that air travel in the UK is taxed outrageously and for the wrong reasons (the 'green' issue is a complete smokescreen).
PS. I live in Manchester. Hope you are having a satisfactory time here. I thought it smelt a bit funny down Market Street yesterday evening. Now I know why! Kind regards!

Hi Andreszj,
Sorry, but Crowne Plaza is not my style. More of a Bewleys man myself! But thank you for your kind, but rather ungracious offer!
I disagree with your comments about MAN women. Not my type at all - you're welcome to as many of the filthy slags as you can handle! My current is a beautiful Quebecoise and I am willingly twisted around her little finger.
