US Citizen travel from Thailand to Malaysia: Customs/Immigration?
Hi all,
I have flown from US to international destination and back, but for the first time am flying from one international airport to another and am unsure of how customs/immigration works in that circumstance. I flew from US to Thailand and have vacationed for a week. Now am flying from Thailand to Malaysia to vacation for another week. How does it work for a US citizen flying out of Thailand and into Malaysia and what do I need to go thru and where? I think leaving Thailand will go thru immigration so they can stamp me as leaving? When I arrive in Malaysia, I go thru immigration I believe and do I need to go through customs and declare what I have purchased in Thailand? Sorry if a seemingly silly question, but have never flown from one international destination to another.
Thanx for any help anyone can provide.
Regards - David

Yes, as you leave Thailand you will go through Immigration and get your passport stamped. YOu will arrive in Malaysia and go through immigration there (no visa required) and through customs (it is cursory - you decide whether you have anything to declare or not, just as in Thailand). You only have to declare goods you plan to leave in Malaysia, not things you are taking home to the US. You will find it is very easy. There is good signage, so you should have no difficulties.

Thank you so much Kathie. I will now make this journey with confidence. And thank you as well for all you have put into fodors regarding Thailand. Your insights went into the planning of my trip and have really enhanced my experience. Such a different trip this time than when I went almost 8 years ago. Have a wonderful weekend.
