Hello everyone. I have a quick question on this, as my flight is Friday this week....
I have checked Galileo, and it looks to me that first class is still open, and their is one (!) coach seat left.
Am I understanding correctly?
Thanks!

Most of the GDS systems will show something like this(I havent seen Gallileo).....
F7A7G7Y1H1V1
smoething like that......if that is what you are seeing, then yes, FirstClass is "open" and there is one economy seat......Can u access the seat map?If so, what do you see?A blocked seat will look something like a seat number and "X"......HTH....S

I am using the link below:
http://cyber.law.harvard.edu/people/...leo/frame2.asp
I am not sure how I can access a seating chart. When I booked this flight, I was not allowed to pick a seat assignment, due to the plane being booked 75%
I guess I will be at the airport 3 hours early to make sure that I get a seat...

Let's assume USAir oversold coach by 20 seats. 10 will not show up, so that leaves 10 that they will have to deal with. As of right now 22 first class seats are still available.
USAir will opup their best customers, and assign everybody else the newly empty seats. The worse case scenario, maybe you will get the upgrade
Have a great trip!
In all my travels, I have never seen ANYBODY bumped that did not wanted to be bumped. Does it happen? YES, very rarely. There are always enough volunteers to take them up on whatever they may be offering. Don't forget, Involuntary bumps go into the airlines permanent record with FAA, so they will go as high as needed to get volunteers, and when they say something like $500-1000(international flights) dollars per, I have seen people climb over each other to turn in their boarding passes first. Hell, I've done it myself when time was not an issue.
Again, have a great trip!

I know it makes no sense to a vacation traveler, but not all people on that plane are looking for some great beaches, music, and whatever
Some are business people and/or people that could afford it, and as such they do buy full fare tickets, for a reason. They are allowed to get a full refund if their plans change, which at least in business they always do. That's why airlines have a very sophisticated software in place that tracks patterns on any given route or better yet, on any given flight. With fully refundable tickets, you could see how an airline would be screwed if they just sold only as many tickets as seats. They have to be able to predict loads on flights, otherwise many seats would be empty. So in many instances the regular flyer would not even know if the flight was oversold, because the system works about 90% of the time. But, like anything else, occasionally things just go wrong, such as, everybody shows up, the earlier flight was cancelled, etc...etc...
Have a great trip and let us know what if anything happen!!!
No problem Mon!!!

Hi BeachBoi, thanks for asking about my flight.... I called USAirways, and they had already assigned us seats together, Seats 11E and 11F window! I guess that they assigned us seats as they became available ??!?
I feel much better now. I know that it is no guarantee, but it just eases my mind....

Thanks circa. I just wanted to post a quick follow up on this...
We did get on the flight with no problems, except for the 3 hour delay leaving Charlotte (but that's a whole 'nother story...)
The return flight, on the other hand. was over-booked. Just like AAFrequentFlyer said, people were tripping over each other to get the free passes. (And I would have been one of them, if I didn't have to work the next day)
Special thanks to AAFrequentFlyer, BeachBoi, and all others that helped. This is the way Fodor's is supposed to work....
