This 777 configuration has 2 seats next to the window, 5 in middle of the cabin. I sure wouldn't like to be seated in the middle of that 5-seater...

...But hey, need to know about those headphone, guys...... Thanks....

I do a lot of flying, both domestic and international, and have never yet had earbuds offered...

It's been a little over a year since I've been in economy on a United transatlantic flight, and they still gave out the earbuds at that point; not sure if they still do. The domestic flights have headphones. Either way, I always take and use my own--much better quality.

If anybody care about headphones (either about sound quality or comfort), they should bring their own. Also buy and carry a 2-1 adapter for those US airlines that use the 2-prong plug. And if flying internationally on a variety of carriers, a 1/8" to 1/4" adapter as some airlines still use that big plug. I have those two adapters with my own headphones whenever I travel.

No need to wait until getting to the airport to buy the E+ seats. You should be able to do it when you do online checking at united.com if you have the UA record locator. Or just call United now.

Just looked at Expertflyer for UA944 tomorrow:

F4 J9 C9 Y0 B0 M0 H0 Q0 V0 W0 S0 T0 K0 L0 G0 A4 D9 Z9 E0 U0

That means economy is sold out at this point. Most E+ seats are already reserved.

Thanks for the headphone info... I called United this afternoon, less than 24 hour before departure and the answer was "sorry, since this is a code-share flight I can't do anything, you need to take care of it at the airport.

I decided I'll let it go this time, since E+ is already heavily booked, and I don't feel like arriving even earlier than needed to United's counter.... I'll take a chance.

$99? Ye gods and little fishes! It will cost us $1500 each to upgrade on the Kangaroo route from Australia to Europe. Be grateful for small mercies. And YES, we're paying the $1500.

You're querying paying 99 to upgade? Like Madgicsh, I am from Australia and pay an extraordinary amount for airfares especially premium fares.

I'd pay the 99 to go to the class above for even just an hour on a long haul flight.

After the flight you'll be thinking it was the best 99 bucks you spent.

It is not an upgrade in class of service. It is same economy seat and service. You get a few more inches of legroom and the seats are in the forward section of the economy class cabin.

It is not comparable to an upgrade from economy to business class, especially on planes that also have first class.

mrwunrfl... I understand economy plus. I would still pay for an extra two or three inches of legroom on a long haul flight!

<<madgicsh, is the $1500 for business class or premium economy?>>

I'll answer for her, $1500 would be for premium econony but even then its a lot more in reality. As an example, Air France from Australia to Europe is from $2100, for Economy Plus its $4500, for Business class you would be looking at a minimum of $6-$7000

Source: bestflights.com.au

Therefore you can see why a $99 upgrade fee seems like a no brainer for the extra leg room

OK.... This your OP here, back from Europe. We didn't pay for the upgrade. There were single seats here and there, in the middle section. Sorry, but after spending 8-9 hours each way, I say NOT WORTH IT!

And to pay $1,500 ????????? Sorry, that is TOTAL NUTS.

Otherwise, though the headphones were regular ones, no earbuds, United's service was just OK. Nothing to write home about....

glad you are happy with your decision - thanks for the update.

the upgrade choice is a personal one and people perceive value differently. I'm sure we could cherry pick things on your vacation that are TOTAL NUTS and not worth it, but we all make the choice that we can live with that works with our individual budgets.

Glad you were happy with your decision, but I guess thats why it is called our opinion as we all differ. Unfortunately for us Australians everything is "TOTAL NUTS" as we live so far from all the good places and we have to pay a premium.
