UA or NW
Hi all, I'm flying to Pittsburgh from Asia for the first time....it's gonna be a long flight and I needless to say, my concerns are abt comfort, service, luggage and safety etc... having read abt NW's potential bankcruptcy worries me. My agent gave me 2 flights, UA or NW. Can anyone recommend, based on your experience, which airline is "better"?

When are you flying?
If NWA settles its pilots problems soon, I'd say go with them.
But if you're flying within the next few days, weeks, however long these negotiations drag on, you're risking a pilot's strike and almost certain liquidation of NWA. So, then, I'd take UA. ;_0

Definitely US, although not my favorite airline, at least it will be flying.
If you are not getting business class, you can often get an Economy Plus seat on UA (more leg room, not wider) for just a little more money. Just make sure they do not sell you a middle seat, which still stinks, Economy Plus or steerage.

If the price is similar, go with UA, because of the labor problem at NW.
If they've settled, then it depends on the routing and plane equipment. Try to stay away from both NW and UA's 747-400, and get on their A330 or B777. From Pittsburgh, it may be hard to avoid that however, since NW's only use 744 from DTW/MSP to Tokyo.
