As janisj says, it's called "open jaw" and can be done on most all airlines, including United. If you look online, next to the destination entries, there's a "multi city" option. Click on that, and enter to Miami, then from Ft Lauderdale. It will give you prices and it's usually not much more than roundtrip to same city. If you call, just tell you want open jaw and take it from there.

I would check both open jaw and one way tickets. Recently, I have found that buying two one way tickets isn't always more expensive than a round trip, and it gives me the flexibility of using two different airlines, if the prices and schedules are better.

Hi Gail..lol. Merry Christmas.. Suddenly we were offered a trip on Princess (never been on that line) down the Amazon fromManuas to Ft. Lauderdale..The price is right, the cabin is good. but the extras like Brazilian Visa and the yellow fever shot are raising the price way up.. Then there is the hotel they book for you inMiami over night and the charter flight from Miami to Manaus.. and they want to charge you big time for deviation.. Meanwhile I got a $600.00 fare for an open fare with Delta!! So,I'll watch the papers and see whose offering prices that are great.. I need a fare to Miami and then one back from Ft. Lauderdale at my convenience.. Yepl we are off and running again..ports we have never been to except St Lucia probably 20 years ago...
