Turkish Airlines

I got bumped off Lufthansa when they went on strike and was rebooked on Turkish from Boston to Rome. I didn’t care how I got there as long as I got there the same day. I was very pleasantly surprised how good Turkish was. It reminded me of the good old days of travel. Comfortable seats, good food, excellent service. I would fly them again if I am headed that way.

By at least one measure, Turkish now flies to more international destinations than any other airline. It can offer long-distance bargains, at the expense of time-consuming routes that go through Istanbul. The flyertalk website will have reviews, although it is aimed at frequent-flying business travellers.

Safety is barely an issue in the modern era of flying.

I flew Turkish Airlines last Christmas (2017). It was fine. The legroom in coach isn’t great, and my flight took off late, but it was just as good a flight as on any other airline. Newish plane, good entertainment, and edible food. Same on the way back except for the delay.

My flight was in business, but the whole experience was very good. Flew Venice-Istanbul-San Francisco; lounge in Istanbul is incredible/huge. Service was professional. As mentioned they do a huge volume.

I haven't traveled from JFK to Istanbul but I have from Istanbul to Miami and about to take the same flight in 2 weeks time. Turkish Airlines are great, service and food are awesome and of course it is very safe. I haven't heard any negative comments related to safety. You shouldn't worry
