I had this happen in May of this year. When the TSA lady put the cloth into a machine, an alarm sounded, and she called her supervisor over.
When I asked what that was all about, she said I tested positive for explosive residue. I was stunned! A 78 year-old white-haired retired English teacher flying out of Spokane, Washington, and I tested positive for explosive residue! How could that be?
I was told that what set it off was probably glycerin in a lotion. Kind of a letdown, actually.
They opened my carry-on stuff and ran the contents through the x-ray machine. They found nothing, of course, so I was off to my gate.
I'm always wanded because my artificial knees set off the metal detectors. I've had staples in my right leg for years, but they never set it off.
