Taking food onboard
I know you are not allowed to bring beverages from home -- you can purchase beverages to take on the plane at the airport after the security checkpoint. Does this also apply to other items, such as sandwiches, etc, or are you allowed to bring your own from outside the airport?

Food is allowed, but there is something to watch out for. For example, if you have a small package of mayo - it's liquid. Should go into that clear zipper according to the 3-1-1 rule. If no sauces, you're fine! Just don't bring soup!
I usually bring a sandwich and snacks like cookies, energy bars, trail mix, nuts.

Be nice to those around you and do not bring any food that is highly odorific. Fruit, nuts, cookies, yogurt less than 3 oz etc are all allowed. We always try to bring food with us, never know when you will get stuck on with a delayed flight.

Any food is okay- as long as it is mostly solid. From home, take out, whatever. I took a dessert home for my Dads birthday, and the only issue that I had was that I almmost left it at the security counter. The screeners were wishing that I had forgotten about it-LOL
