Swiss-Business Class MD-11

Husband is 6'4", 250 pounds.I thought Swiss Business Class seats would be better then American. Using miles. Now I find out we are flying on an old MD-11. Flying from LAX-Zurich. Anyone have experience? Suggestions?

look on the swiss air website for their business class seats and see if they have newer seats on that aircraft. You can also look at the seat maps.

Hubble,

The MD-11 seats are definitely old and subpar - BUT it's the only nonstop...

Swiss will be phasing in their brand new A340s on the route in late November:
http://www.swiss.com/destination-exc...a340-dest.html
Click on the "business class" link to see the cabin design - nice.

In the meantime I would still stick with the Swiss nonstop - just avoid the middle seat in the center section at all costs!

Hope this helps,
Andre

Thank you for the information.
I'd much rather have a comfortable seat then a non-stop flight. We are traveling in September on MD-11. I could have flown AA business class instead, thought for sure Swiss would be better seats! Live and learn!

Hubble,

You're welcome.

I respectfully disagree however - it's an overnight flight and this way you can get some sleep - the good wine will make up for the so-so seat

Plus it's MUCH faster than AA connecting in ORD.

Ok, I'll guzzle a bottle of wine on take off! The seats have to be more comfortable then coach right? I can not find the measurements on Swiss Website. I know we are 2 seats on window. Do you know how far back they recline? Thanks

Andre,
I have to respectfully disagree. If HUBBLE did the AA LAX-DFW-ZRH, and upgraded with miles, it would only be about 2 hours longer, BUT, the DFW-ZRH segment would have been on the 'new' 2 class 767. I just had the pleasure of being on one of these and let me tell you, it's worth it. The new first/business class uses the same business seats as a 777, but they do recline more. The food, wine served is equal to the 777 first class cabin. The crews have been re-trained to provide a world-class service and it shows.
Now, I'm not saying that SWISS is a bad product, I do like what they provide, but unfortunately the MD-11 are dated, and so are the business class seats. They do provide great food and service, but the comfort level is below acceptable.

Now Hubble is VERY depressed! I'm using 180k miles to fly business thinking Swiss was better then AA.
More room for my football player sized husband.
To late to switch to AA, no seats from LAX. Maybe I can get upgraded to 1st class!

You're absolutely right, AAFrequentflyer - forgot about the DFW-ZRH flight...

Oh well, it's still a lot nicer than coach
