SAS strike - we were treated well

Our visit to Copenhagen coincided with the SAS pilot strike, so we were watching it closely, day by day.
When it became clear our non-stop flight to US would be cancelled, we called their very busy hotline and were eventually but efficiently re-booked on Lufthansa for the next day. All right, free night in Copenhagen!

EU regulation 261 spells out “duty of care” requirements for airlines:
We knew we had €50 each for food and €250 for hotel.
Our BW hotel had no vacancy for us so we upgraded to the nearby Strand and then had a very nice dinner, being careful to keep separate receipts for food and alcohol.

It wasn’t quite clear if taxi to airport would be included, so we planned to again use the metro.but we did take taxi from hotel to metro station. Taxi driver convinced us it would be so much easier to just keep going to CPH with him, so we let ourselves be persuaded.

Lufthansa flight was fine although we did have to change planes in Frankfurt and of course lost our carefully chosen seats.

Once home, I filed request for expenses and within four days the money was in credit union, including the taxi fare.

Thanks, I was pleasantly surprised.

We’ve always had good luck - never a lost bag or even a tarmac delay.
This was absolutely our first experience with a cancelled flight.

Just curious - 250 euro for hotel, is that per passenger?
If so, you could have upgraded to a 500 euro/night hotel and really lived large?
