New to Flying, Help!

Hello,
I'll be flying in February to Mexico...
If I purchase tickets now, and the flight is cancelled, what happens? Do I just lose all my money? Is it credited towards another flight? Thank you so much in advance for all the help!

In general, you may be offered the option of rerouting, travel on another date (if the route becomes non-daily) or a refund.

Agree with the above. Another tip - always pay for flights with a credit card to protect yourself in case the carrier goes out of business.

What airline are you considering?

I would simply buy a ticket on a reputable and stable airline. Then likely you will not have to worry about the answer to your question.

Do you have your passport yet?

The problem is that most carriers are reducing service so there's a possibility the OP will need to deal with this issue on any carrier, especially since the flight isn't until Feb. Of course, the solution may be simple, or not depending on the route. There are some destinations that don't have that many alternative options.

Yes I have my passport. As others said, I'm just worried because a lot of the major carriers are reducing flights and switching times. I guess I'll just purchase with a credit card then cross my fingers Thanks everyone!

Patty's last comment is worth noting. Most if not all carriers are making major schedule changes in the fall and it could well continue beyond that.

CO just canceled our daughter's return trip from ATH in Dec (I posted a thread on this). The options they're offering are not good at all - and none of them involve the most likely candidates, their current partners, AF, KL or DL. We're most likely going to cancel the ticket and start over.
