KOREAN AIR--seat selection for trans-Pacific flights
I am hoping that the experienced travelers here (Rkkwan, etc) can help me.
I did manage to snag those FF seats for next winter; JFK-ICN-BKK and home from Hong Kong via Seoul. Many thanks to all of you who were so patient and generous with advice.
Flying Blue advised me that I need to call Korean to book my seats.
On my last 2 trips, I sat in the upper deck (business) and liked this very much. I am trying to book the upper-deck emergency exit window seat on the left side of the aircraft, facing the front. On both previous trips, I asked for this and was given the seat behind that row; I am determined to get it right this time! (It shows up as either 18, 19 or 20A depending on type of aircraft)
To do so, I need to know the type of aircraft I will be flying on flight 082 and 081. And if anyone knows the specific seat number, please let me know..or I will look at SeatGuru (I tried that first, but they list several configurations depending on type of aircraft..)

There is usually a "details" part on your online intinerary which lets you get flight duration, type of aircraft etc. If it is not available one your online intinerary already booked then try going to KA website and start to book identical reservation to see if you can get to the same detail or link to seat map to see available seats. Or, see if they detail their own aircraft on their website in a more general section. (Some airlines for example have elaborate video "tours" online of their business and first class seats and details of what routes those are available on.)

Hi ekscrunchy,
You are going back to Asia, you lucky d*g you!
Try this one - I like it much better than Seat Guru:
http://seatexpert.com/
You can put in your flight # and the date and it will show you what aircraft they are using. I also like their maps better.
Good luck!

Paul: This is the only seating chart listed for my flight on SeatExpert; it is for a 747-400 which is not the plane listed for my flight next February.
But I will return to the site and check again, as Rkkwan suggests:

So do you think that means that they will have the new seating charts up by then?
Paul: I am traveling with (older) friends who have never been to Asia. He is a history and shipping and train buff who is entranced by the thought of seeing large port cities and taking the train. So we will end the trip with a few days each in Shanghai and HK, taking the train between the 2 cities. The thought of dragging my friends to Jia Jia Tang Bao is making me smile!

She is a delight! And with that amazing food, it must have been fun!! Do you have a DTF in your area?
I cannot wait to sample the food in HK. I have been there before, but last time was more than 20 years ago! And back then I did not have the advantage of all of this great advice from this forum!
