After reading some of the statements in this forum. I have also become concerned about a hour layover in London. I land at Heathrow airport in Terminal 1, with a hour and 10 min layover and have to catch a connecting flight to Dublin in terminal 5. I am very concerned this will not be enough time. I am flying with Aer Lingus, flights are being operated by British Airways.

And where are you flying in from? Did you buy this all on one ticket?

I had a very bad experience with BA when connecting through Heathrow when flying to Edinburgh. The problems I had were both ways as each way we missed the connecting flight. If you miss your connecting flight, they will put on another one if you book this all on one ticket. If you did, try and get both boarding passes before you fly out. If you can't or don't, expect to have a problem. You will get where you need to but you won't get there until many hours late.

First of all terminal 1 isn't open at LHR - <u>it closed last summer</u>. So what does your ticket actually say????

I would never do a one hour connection at LHR - even in the same terminal. But in the same terminal it <i>is</i> possible.

Are these on one ticket or two? If one ticket you'll probably be OK because they will put you on the next available flight. BUT it also depends where you are flying to - are there multiple later flights to the same destination? If not, the next available flight might not be until the next day.

I have never seen a 1 hr 10 minute legal connection w/ a terminal change at LHR.


BUT - you definitely need to re-check your tickets because there is no T-1 . . .

From last week's experience, I know that Aer Lingus is very strict about a minimum 1 hr, 15 min connection time.

We had tickets from London to Dublin, and then on to Chicago.
Aer Lingus changed our flight to Dublin because the original ticket only allowed one hour connection time in Dublin, a small airport.

This would make me nervous but find out when the next flight leaves in case you miss your connection, which seems very likely in this scenario. If you miss your connection they will rebook you at no charge. DH and I learned this the hard way a few years ago when we missed a very short connection to Dublin.

If you are traveling over a holiday weekend in either the UK or Ireland you could have an even bigger problem if all of the later flights are booked. That was part of the problem with our trip as we were landing on the Friday before the May Bank Holiday. When we got to London and missed our connection to Dublin, we discovered that all of the later flights to Dublin were full for the entire weekend. What they finally did was to send us to Frankfurt, and from there to Dublin. Yes that's crazy but they said it was the only way we could get to Dublin that same day. We arrived 12 hours late into Dublin but at least we didn't have to wait 3 days to get there.
