Help in Changing British Airways flight

I know British Airways is not especially known for its customer service, but I am having trouble trying to figure out how to change one segment of a multisegment ticket booked on line. I accidently booked the flight back from Amsterdam to Gatwick rather than to Heathrow which is where the connecting flight back to the US is from. (Believe it of not the two flights leave Amsterdam at exactly the same time.) When I have my on line intinerary open it tells me the link to change the flight is not available. I know I likely have to pay a change fee or even cancel the original segment and eat the price of that original segment and buy the new segment at the current price. I just don't want to be considered a no show on the first segment on return and have the balance of the flight cancelled. I just can't figure out how to do that on line or find a phone number to call from their website. I sent an email to customer service but if anyone has any better ideas it would be much appreciated.

Pick up the phone. Seriously give them a call and hope you get a helpful agent.

I'm not sure where you are, but if you're in the U.S., here are their customer service/reservations numbers:

1-800-AIRWAYS
1-800-247-9297

I've changed a flight with BA before and it was as simple as calling them up and paying the change fee. In fact, I'm not even sure if they charged me for a difference in fare, or if there was one, but I remember it being around $100-150 to change the date of my return flight. That's all I changed; nothing more. Granted, this was four years ago now, but that is where I would start.

If you're nice and explain what happened with the LGW/LHR mixup, you might get someone who is sympathetic and will help you out. Asking is free

Just a thought, but if you have at least 3-3.5 hours in between the AMS-LGW and LHR-US flights, why not just keep the ticket as is and catch the airport transfer bus. It's about $30 one way and it takes under an hour but you need more time because you will have to collect your luggage in LGW and drop the bags off at a special transfer desk in LHR. Your BPs will be issued in AMS, so it's not really a full check in in LHR.

Something to consider but only if you have the required minimum connection time between flights.

Good luck!

Great idea - you'll have to go through immigration, you'll have to collect your luggage and cart it to the coach, you'll have to pay $30 for the coach, you'll then have to check-in again and go through security whiilst all the time stressing about catching your onward flight compared to

having your luggage checked all the way through and staying airside for the transfer to your onward flight.

Phone BA and get it all sorted out

Great idea....

.....Phone BA and get it all sorted out

many travelers do it daily just because they don't have a choice. It's not a big problem for majority, perhaps for you?..

... It's a great deal cheaper then changing the ticket.

So, IMHO, it is a good idea under the circumstances.

Many thanks! Don't know why the don't make it easier to find their 800 number on their website. (And I do know how to look up toll free numbers on internet, don't know why I didn't in this case.) Happy ending. I got a very nice agent on the phone with only a minute's wait. It took him some time but he got permission as a courtesy to change the one segment without charge rather than reticket and recharge the whole round trip ticket which included four different segments.

Yeah! Good work. I know BA doesn't have the greatest reputation about it's policies, but I've had very good experience with them when I was actually dealing with real people (agents on the phone, ticketers at the airport, crew on the plane, etc.)
