flight strategy?

hello, due to medical clearances I had to wait to book a flight to Maui until now for 2 people. Does anyone have a strategy they use or tip or tricks for this process? I'm not seeing much under $1000.00 X2 ? we need to fly out Jan12th and come back Feb 9th from the Midwest thanks Randy

I assume by "strategy" you are asking about ways to find 'low airfares". If so, there's really no "magic pill" for that as it's virtually impossible to predict how, when or even if airfares will change. This is especially true if you have to fly on specific dates. Also, you didn't say where in the mid-west you are flying from so no one hear can tell you if a $1,000 r/t per person fare is good or bad.

Most people will tell you to be flexible when it comes to flying - sometimes traveling a day or two later or earlier will result in a lower airfare but it could just as well result in a higher airfare. Others will tell you that flying mid-week vs. weekends will give you a slightly lower fare. Still others suggest using alternate airports but that only works if there is another airport relatively close to either your regular departure or arrival city. Sometimes flying at off peak hours (late at night or very early in the morning or booking a more circuitous route (rather than a more direct route) will result in slightly lower fares.

The point of all this being is you have to do a lot of "hands on research" research and still there are no guarantees. You can try signing up for airfare alerts on your airline(s) of choice's as well as various travel websites and you'll get notifications of any "airfare sales" but there are no guarantees there will be a sale for your particular destination or your planned dates of travel. The best advice is to monitor airfares and when you see a fare you can live with go ahead and book your ticket as that fare may disappear rather quickly.
