EasyJet and other discount airlines

I am deciding whether to fly from Edinburgh to Amsterdam in May or take the ferry from Newcastle. I checked direct flights from Edinburgh and found Easyjet routes. I'm unfamiliar with this airline and other European discount airlines, but I understand so much is a la carte. Can anyone tell me whether there is any restriction on carry on bags? I usually travel light, and I would not want to have to check my carry-on bags (and pay for the unwanted privilege!)

Easy Jet are a budget airline but a pretty good one, They charge for check in luggage. You are better flying to Europe than taking the ferry, I have used the ferry and it was very good but it takes over night to get there.

If you read their website you'll find that there is no restriction on weight of hand luggage but that it must not be bigger than 55x40x20cm which is about one third smaller than the "standard".

And remember that most things are a la carte on the ferry too. Things that folks are now so upset about losing on airlines were never free on the train or the ferry, such as drinks and food. I usually just price out the worst-case option for luggage and compare that.

Have you also checked KLM? The budget airlines are not always cheaper, and it is always worth checking the legacy carriers as well. You will get 20kg of free checked luggage with KLM.

Have used EasyJet many times and never had a bad experience..yet.

It runs on a similar model to our own Southwest..similar colors, too.

The website www.easyjet/en has all the info you might need.

You can check other possible budget carriers at whichbudget.com or skyscanner.net if you haven't already.

One thing: wheh easyjet SAYS it is closing a flight, it MEANS it..get there early.
