Does it cost 135,000 miles to fly to Hawaii??

I am trying to book 2 award tickets from SAV to HNL & back from LIH to SAV in April of 2011. The cost is 135,000 miles pp! I have heard that there is now 3 award tiers. How do I find the lower tier?
Thanks, Karen

Which airline?

When you say "April," is it around Easter (April 24, 2011)? If so, that might be why there is no low-mileage redemption available.

I'm assuming this is Delta. Believe it or not, the calendar is semi-functioning now so you can see which dates have low tier. I see a couple in late April.

You get the calendar by checking "my dates are flexible".

I just tried it on Delta.com and randomly selected outbound on 6 Apr and return on 27 Apr. Got 65,000 miles in coach (low one way and high the other).

You have to be flexible and persistent using Delta.

Search from ATL (or even LAX) instead of SAV at first.
Search roundtrips to HNL and LIH first.
Use these as a later guideline for cobbling together the multicity itinerary.
Only search for 1 person to find better availability.
If you are elite be sure you are logged into the site (this will make a difference).
Be flexible in dates: Midweek usually has better availability. And be sure you check "my dates are flexible."
Don't do open jaw.

That's really high. I used AA miles last year for ORD-Honolulu and it was 75,000 for first class.

roundtrips will be fewer miles than open jaw
larger airport to larger airport will be fewer miles than smaller to smaller
spring break will be more miles than other times except Xmas

Delta is known for overcharging on miles, 135K round trip pp in F/BF is not that bad. How much would it cost to pay cash and do the math as to whether it is worth it.

I just got 2 first class seats on UsAir from PHL to LIH for 65,000 points per person. My travel dates are 09/27-10/3.

Just keep looking.
