Who are you trying to book via? AF or one of thier partners?
Are you calling or just trying on line?
You might try calling and seeing if they can put you on a partner carrier. (I think they are partners with Delta, KLM and Alitalia) Lots of times the partners tend not to show up.

CarolA ... I am calling & trying online with no luck for the return.
I am not leaving until Nov. so I have time.
When I go on Delta's site, it's more than twice as many miles
than if on A.F. Thanks

Are you using Delta miles? This is a known problem which hopefully will be resolved soon http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1325738
Anything you see on the AF site that shows up as a "classic" award should be available through Delta.

You might think you're booking fairly far in advance (it's April and you want a ticket for November), but a lot of reward tickets get snapped up as soon as the window opens (usually around 330 days before the flight). And LAX-CDG would be a popular route. And November (especially if you're looking for seats fairly close to Thanksgiving) would be an incredibly popular time to fly (so the reward seats will be gone and AF will be trying to get $ for seats).
