Best U.S intercontinental carriers?

Any recommendations about the best U.S. carrier to Ireland and Scotland? Right now I'm looking at US Airways and Continental.

Thanks.

Sorry, but I have traveled a lot in the last three years in USA, and I must say that I have found most US carriers to be of a very poor standard.

Hi, Kimbere!

You ask about U.S. carriers to Ireland & Scotland.

Many travelers will tell you that US Airways (and Irish Aer Lingus) are both dreadful, semi-discount carriers with poor quality service and miserable seating accommodations.

Many others will tell you that Continental (and the other British carrier: BMI) are decidedly a notch above those two with regard to service and seating.

Let us know which carrier you eventually select, and how it turns out for you. Bon voyage!

I would avoid a 757 aircraft. I might vote for Delta on this one. Most U.S. airlines are dreadful in economy but pretty good in business.

I've flown economy on CO a few times to London and found them quite acceptable as is AA. Of course if you can get an upgrade it gets better !

Where are you flying from?

The main problem with CO is not the airline, but Newark. It consistently ranks in the very bottom of on-time ratings, usually even worse than PHL.

Especially in the summer. 2-, 3-hours delays in the late afternoon or evening is extremely common.

I'd flat out avoid US Airways. I just can't stand flying them anymore...

CO is a nice airline...in the air, that is.

As rkkwan said, Newark is a major hassle. For example, on a trip to Italy last summer, the plane that just ferried passengers back and forth, PIT-EWR, was delayed 3 hours, and I almost missed my connection.

Delta and AA are, across the board, pretty good. Not fantastic, but pretty good.

Everyone has different experiences..... I have never had an issue with Newark, but I've had nightmares at JFK. I've flown Delta, US Air and Continential to Ireland - all were fine.... If US Airways had a really convenient flight for me, I wouldn't think twice about booking them. I haven't flown them in awhile because I only travel internationally (not a good thing - don't like to travel anymore), and they don't tend to have alot of options to where I'm going ...
