Am I crazy for doing this?
(Please read this before responding)
I just booked two one-way tickets from OAK to Maui (OGG). Each was about $213 with Continental/United. I wanted miles, so I'm flying from OAK to Denver to San Francisco to Maui each time. I figure I should pick up 4,000 miles each way. The direct flight from San Francisco was around $700. My Silver Elite ends at the end of February.
BTW, I'm in Houston, sitting across (outside) the Continental Presidents Club South Lounge and I'm able to access their Internet. I saw someone sitting outside the Lounge at LAX so I thought I would give it a try. Success.

Not crazy at all - typical mileage running stuff. However, are you talking about Continental Silver status? IIRC status miles are booked by the calendar year, so your elite qualifying balance resets to 0 as of five days ago. Thus these flights will help you get back status for CY 2011, but 2010 is toast.

Now I have another problem. I booked a one-way ticket in Business Club with BA from Miami to Stuttgart in June using miles several months ago. I really couldn't decide at the time what city I wanted to fly out of so I waited. Now there are no frequent flights available with BA to Florida. Here are my options:
1. Book a one-way ticket from Dublin to Florida. The price is around $550. I could do it with U.S. Air and get miles with Continental.
2. Fly Condor from Frankfurt to Fort Lauderdale. No miles.
3. Fly Air Berlin from Germany to Miami. No miles.
Has anyone tried this? I could book another round-trip ticket to Europe for Spring and return in July. I would probably be able to use frequent flyer miles and book a one-way ticket back to Florida for the spring flight and could return from my June flight with the July return ticket.
Anyone have any other creative ideas?

As far as a mileage run goes, OAK-DEN-SFO-OGG for $213 would not be very good at 5 cents per mile. But, for a trip to Maui, it is a great price, considering that you will save around $487 and earn a few extra miles.
Option 1, flying from Dublin doesn't sound like a good idea. The price is not cheap, I think, when you add on the time and money to get from Germany to Dublin. DUB-MIA is only 4165 miles.
Why not use some Continental (or other *A) miles and fly the Lufthansa nonstop FRA-MIA?
