It's your typical low fare carrier that gets you from point A to point B without any special perks. I flew them HOU to LGA last spring and I liked them. The main thing I noticed was the extremely quick check-in process. I would fly them again and had no problems with them.

Yes - a little like Jet Blue or Southwest - but each of the newer carriers have found their own ways to cut costs.
Since there are so few amenities on any airline flying coach these days, it doubt you would notice much difference between Air Tran and most other airlines.

AirTran (based in Orlando) is in OK financial shape, kuranosuke-- you're confusing it with ATA Airlines (fka American Trans Air Inc., headquartered in Indianapolis), which is indeed in Chapter 11.

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned that AirTran is Valujet. After the crash in the Everglades and the resulting bad press, Valujet bought out the a smaller carrier called AirTran and used that name ever since.
