weight restrictions

Question, I always thought it was 33lbs for your checked luggage not 33 including carry ons? Which is it? I hope not both, which I just read on traveling to Mahale.- Say not so -my photo equipment will take up most of that!

thomas, our small plane flights in southern Tanzania last year had the 32-33 pound limit and that included all luggage including carry-on. As another poster elsewhere on this board did, I worn my vest and had much of my photo, binocs, etc in it or around my neck. Vest had very large pockets so I could arrange things comfy like. As it turned out we three were the only passangers and weight would have been no problem. Pilot was still appreciative of us heeding the limit. He indicated many do not and such causes problems at the last minute. My wife and daughter had no problems with limit and actually had weight to spare. Having laundry services at two of the three camps made a big difference. If you are traveling with another individual or two maybe someone will share the load. Good luck.

Thanks so much, I had forgotten we had done something like that on a past trip . We are going to be staying at Arusha Coffee lodge before our trip to Mahale and returning there after. So maybe we should combine ideas and leave extra clothes/gear there and pick them up on the return.

I think taking only what you need for Mahale and leaving the rest in Arusha is a great idea.

Absolutely and since your're returning to the same hotel in Arusha, take only what you need for Mahale. Even if you weren't returning to the same hotel, your tour operator should be able to hold the items you don't require at Mahale.
