I am going on an Australian "safari" in December 2009, visiting Tasmania and Kangaroo Island. Its not Africa, but it will at least be a wildlife-centric trip report. Also visiting Vanuatua and New Caledonia on that trip.

Well here it is 9 sleeps to go, this has got to be the MOST planned trip in history!
A big thanks to everyone on Fodors for their help and patience over the past few years.
I just want to say, before you all do, that yes I’m tragic! I’ve been packed since before Xmas, bag weights in at 11.4kg,
Most important thing I have to leave at home is my warped Aussie sense of humor, other than that everything’s all good. Knees have been replaced, ankles fused, nearly mastered squatting!
We’re traveling with Sunworld Safaris.

Day 1 (18th March): Maroochydore - Sydney
Day 2 (19th March): Sydney - J’burg - Mondior Concorde Hotel
Day 3 (20th March 09): Nairobi late arrival - New Stanley
Day 4 (21st March): Nairobi - New Stanley
Day 5 (22nd March): Nairobi - Samburu Game Reserve – Serena Lodge
Day 6 (23rd March): Samburu – Serena Lodge
Day 7 (24th March): Samburu - Sweetwaters Game Reserve – Tented Camp
Day 8 (25th March): Sweetwaters - Lake Nakuru National Park – Sarova Lion Hill
Day 9 (26th March): Lake Nakuru - Masai Mara Game Reserve - Serena Lodge
Day 10 (27th March): Masai Mara - Serena Lodge
Day 11 (28th March): Masai Mara - Serena Lodge
Day 12 (29th March): Masai Mara (Fly) Nairobi (Fly) Kilimanjaro – Lake Manyara National Park - Serena Lodge
Day 13 (30th March): Lake Manyara - Ndutu Conservation Area
Day 14 (31st March): Ndutu
Day 15 (01st April): Ndutu
Day 16 (02nd April): Ngorongoro Conservation Area – Sopa Lodge
Day 17 (03rd April): Ngorongoro – Sopa Lodge
Day 18 (04th April): Ngorongoro - Kilimanjaro Airport - Nairobi. - New Stanley
Day 19 (05th April): Early departure Nairobi – Metcourt Laurel
Day 20 (06th April): J’burg – De Wildt overnight
Day 21 (07th April): De Wildt – Elephant Sanctuary – Southern Sun Grayston
Day 22 -23 (08th – 9th April): J’burg – Sydney – Intercontinental Hotel where we’ll force ourselves to go to the roof at dusk, lookout over our stunning harbour with free drinks and nibbles!
Day 24 (10th April) Sydney – Maroochy. Back to reality and see how quick we can organize next trip to less popular places in Africa!

Yes it’s a very, very busy trip and that’s ok, the next ones will be more leisurely, although I’ve been told that I can’t go to Sheldricks every time we go to Africa!
My trip report starts:
We had an awesome day hiding in the bush with Sheldricks babies…….

My husband and I leave April 7 for South Africa and Botswana. Our first safari ever will be Botswana:

April 12/13 Mapula Lodge
April 14/15 Delta Camp
April 16/17 Deception Valley Lodge

We booked through Island Safari. We will be in Cape Town as well, and the Winelands. I can't wait (and will most likely be posting a series of last minute questions soon!)

In April, a panda and cherry blossom safari:
Chengdu (China) -- Chengdu Panda Breeding and Research Center
Japan -- 10 days in Osaka, Nara, Hakone, Tokyo

In late August, a more traditional safari:
Salzburg -- no, not a new camp, but the (mostly) Mozart music festival in Austria for 3 days en route to...
Rekero camp, Masai Mara -- in a private vehicle, to spend lots of quality time with wildebeest and others who join our jolly crew
House of Waine, Karen -- bookending Rekero
Ngala tented camp, Timbavati, So Africa

(Why both east and south Africa? I've got a round-the-world ticket, so why not?)
