Sabi Sand Game Reserve Expert (Skukuza, South Africa)
8/26/14
I am planning a 3 day Safari in Mid September 2014, (Kruger National Park) at the Sabi Sand Game Reserve in Skukuza, South Africa,
and was seeking safari advice for 3 days!
Staying at Hotel Kruger Gate, but was wondering if the Kruger National Park on the south end, (Skukuza) offers daily safari at the Sabi Reserve? I checked the Sanparks.org site, but see no safaris being offered by the ranger station, or independent safaris seperate from the lodges and hotels, am I missing something?
I will be traveling on my own, and renting a car, but based on the sanparks site, one can be ticketed by rangers for rolling down windows in the car to take pictures? Safety issues? Ok, if not, no sense in driving inside the park, can not take any pictures, just memories, no photos?
(No, I will not take pictures through the window!)
Ecco Africa, and Elephant Head safari tours-
$112 US Dollars, (5 Am- 11 AM) for 6 hour Sabi Sand reserve safari in jeep! (15-24 guests)
$73, US Dollars (5:30-10:30 AM) for 5 hour Sabi Sand Bush walk! (10 guests minimum!)
$43 (5AM-8AM) Kruger National Park Safari, not Sabi Sand!
Safari Idea-
1 day full day Sabi Sand Safari, with tour
half day bush walk, half day morning/evening safari
half day animal sanctuary in Sabi Sand, where?
Blyde river canyon and panorama tour, is comparible to Yosemite National Park, and
the Grand Canyon, or a waste of time?
Any suggestions, please let me know?

That is absolutely incorrect about not having your windows down while driving in Kruger. You may not have arms or other body parts sticking out of the windows. If there are baboons or monkeys around and they approach your auto, you should put the windows up as they can quickly trash the inside. Everything else is fine. Our very first day we went to Kruger, 3 male lions walked right past our car while the windows were down. I was whispering to put the windows up but my partner was frozen and didn't move, it was an incredible experience.

KNP offers their own "safaris". In large open sided truck. I do not recommend. KNP will not advertise for private lodges so no surprise you don't find them. But they are around. Although never been to one, always stayed a KNP camp. Agree with lellyee21 above on all. Maybe call a hotel in Nelspruit and ask about lodges near KNP? Or, tours they offer? (They will speak English).
Your rental/hire car. Can be picked up at JNB/ORT, we use Avis. Be aware that the style today for many small cars is to have very slanted wind screens and very small side windows. Interfering with camera position/view. Rolled down windows are fine in KNP.
Blyde River Canyon panorama tour is BIG WASTE of time if you have seen USA Grand Canyon or Yosemite. Use the time for safari.

You cannot enter the Sabi Sands private reserve without staying at one of the lodges within the reserve. This is true of most private reserves. Kruger is a different situation as it's a public park. However, you are better off staying at one of the KNP rest camps inside the park.
