Jeremie: I can't believe the extent of your travels! Is it part of your career? e.g. photography, travel industry, etc.? I will look forward to perusing your site since many of your trips are to places not often discussed in these forums.

True I travel quite a lot. A sort of passion. Some travel is for my work (places like Sudan, Lebanon, Congo, Tsunami affected areas; I work in the humanitarian field) and the other travel for pleasure. I try as much as I can to find time to discover very different countries.
Glad to hear you like the blog. If there's any info you need, please feel free to ask. And if you have ideas to improve the blog, I am also iterested!

I've lived in Lebanon for 2 years and go back there very regularily. So if you need any tip, don't hesitate. I've been to Syria twice also.
Lebanon is a tiny country (barely 10,000 km2) but it's incredibly diverse. Souqs in phenician cities are not to be missed, as well as the Kadisha valley. And Byblos is one of the most beautiful city in the region.
For Syria, try to travel to Palmyre by bus, as you progressively enter the desert and the landscape is quite nice. Aleppo is also worth the visit, and don't neglect the area north, until the turkish border.
Last but not least, Damas is a true middle east city, with a fantastic souq, and great small streets to wander around. Syrians are extremely welcoming, they'll do anything to help you (bar the officials and police).
If food in Lebanon is a permanent feast, Syria's is below average.
Enjoy your trip, if you need anything, don't hesitate.

Thanks Jeremie - I will definitely be taking you up on your offer to answer any questions!
I am planning to split about 10 days between Lebanon and Syria at the end of my trip this fall, so after I do some more research I'll see what you think of the places I plan to see since my research will mainly be based on what I read in Lonely Planet.

Hi Jeremie
Do you know whether it is possible to take local ferries in the Mediterranian sea? I would like to plan a trip from Egypt to Syria to Turkey to Greece, visiting some places on the coast and one island in Greece.
Thanks!
