October in Kenya/Tanzania

Based on previous comments, I asked CCAfrica to alter their proposed itinerary. We were hoping to go in September but they're proposing the first two weeks of October with the following schedule:

1 night Norfolk
2 nights Campi Ya Kanzi
3 nights Kichwa Bateuleur Camp
2 nights Lake Manyara Tree Lodge
4 nights Tanzania Under Canvas
2 nights Ngorongoro Crater Lodge

flights from Nairobi to Camp Ya Kanzi; flight to Kichiwa; flight to Manyara ; flight to Klein's Camp airstrip;
flight to Ngorongoro Crater; flight to Nairobi

Do you think October 1-16 is still a good time for this itinerary? Any suggestions for improvements?

Thanks!

A much better itinerary. In October you will still find the migration in the Mara (the herds have been known to stay here till/thru November, some years) and you have 3-days which is good. Doubt, however, that much of the migration will have returned to the Serengeti, though there may be some early "returnees" and there are resident herds and other game in the area.

You are being offered beginning October, at CCA properties, as these are the dates that CCA has opened (September is booked); you won't go wrong with this revised itinerary.

Keep us posted.

Looks good. Between Tanz under canvas and Kichwa Batleur, you will hv spectacular game viewing all round.

Do you think Campi Ya Kanzi is a good stop or should we add the days to Bateleur?

Thanks so much for your comments!

One more question: should we try for Samburu instead of Campi Ya Kanzi?

Campi Ya Kanzi is adjacent to Tsavo and nearby Amboseli, on private conservation lands. An good place to see elephants. It's small and you won't find throngs of tourists.

If you'd prefer Samburu for the elephant experience, your choices can be Elephant Watch Camp or the new Joy's camp in Shaba (northern tip of Samburu/Buffalo Springs/Shaba reserves. A luxury camp on the site of where Joy Adamson of "Born Free" fame had her camp.

I feel that combining CYK or Elephant Watch or Joy's along with time in the Mara and your Tanzania stops give you a better overall safari experience.

Much better than the previous itinerary! I think Campi ya Kanzi or Samburu would provide a good constrast to the Masai Mara. I don't think you can go wrong with either.
