Literature
Can anyone recommend literature about Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon?
Could be history, poetry, fiction, biography or current affairs, even travel essays.
Needs to be well-written.

You might try the Trilogy by Naguib Mafouz. It won a Noble Prize. Does that qualify as "well written"?
If you don't need a Nobel Prize, there are loads of books on the subject, but I don't know what you are going to consider "well written". I like a couple of books about Cairo and Alexandria during the 1930's and 40's. One is called Camels and Cocktails, and another is Apricots on the Nile.

Beliieve or not there are some great kids books like Egyptian Echo and Awesome Egyptians that give you excellent background and Kent Weeks guide to Luxor is totally the best. Adhaf Soueif is fantastic fiction

Re Jordan .... I am currently reading Queen Noor's Leap of Faith (Memories of an unexpected life) - a very interesting read! I also found Married to a Bedouin interesting - want to reread it now that I have been to Petra.
