Have been in East Africa for almost five years and above all I do travel a lot.What I can advice you about traveling to Tanzania is, most of the safari in Tanzania do starts from Kenya so you just get tour agent from Kenya to org anise for you your safari.

Hi Janie -
My daughter and I went on a private Tanzania safari with Good Earth Tours in August 2009. We had a great experience and no problems at all. I dealt mostly with Narry in Florida and he answered all my questions. We booked the Classic Safari package with Good Earth and made a couple of changes to the lodgings plus we added one extra day at the beginning to visit Arusha Park and recover from jet lag. Our guide was Raphael and he was friendly and knowledgeable.
However... there was no cooler in the safari vehicle to keep our boxed lunches cold and since most of the time it consisted of roast chicken, we were hesitant to eat it after sitting at room temperature for hours so we gave it to Raphael. Also, not all of the Land Cruiser's seat belts worked so one of us had to seat way in the back when we were on the paved roads as that was the only rear seat with a working seat belt.
But I think if you mention these to issues with Narry he would try to accommodate you.
I'll never forget that trip to Africa, my first safari ever, and I plan to go back with Good Earth soon.

My comment had to do with your statement "most of the safari in Tanzania do starts from Kenya so you just get tour agent from Kenya to org anise for you your safari" may be a bit misleading and in fact may be way off base. A company based in Tanzania would seem more appropriate to organize a safari in own country.

Bad comments about Tour operators are posted at TripAdvisor just check. If you don't find any bad comment about them give them a chance.
Due to availability of regular/ multiple flights into Kenya, many travelers to Tanzania do organize their Safari from Kenya.
What i know Good Earth Tours in Arusha is a ground handling office rather than a Tanzania based tour operator so in terms of better rates?? Local companies have fair prices. You need to shop a little and then compare.

Good Earth Tours is a legitimate ground outfitter with offices in Arusha as do most outfitters in Tanzania. The fact that GE also has offices in Florida, US doesn't take anything away from them.

There are about 200 reputable outfitters in Arusha that handle ground/safari operations. The fact though that there are more air carriers flying into Nairobi rather than Kilimanjaro/JRO has nothing to do with anything but the fare likely cheaper. Some visitors do choose to fly into NBO and either 1) take a Shuttle Bus (5/hrs, cheap) to Arusha; or 2) take a connecting flight from here to Kilimanjaro (1/hr but more costly). At least during the past 2/yrs there are more air carriers flying into JRO - in addition to KLM, there's Qatar via Doha, Ethiopian Air via Addis Ababa and Turkish Air. Though the latter has very tempting fares, flights don't arrive till about 2am and departing about 4am which incurs additional hotel costs.
