Israel Hotel Suggestions

We have points with Sheraton and were planning to stay at the Sheraton in Tel Aviv & Sheraton Plaza in Jerusalem. A recent poster said the Sheraton Plaza in Jerusalem was terrible, with old rooms in need of renovation and no soap in the bathrooms. Was this just one bad experience? Has anyone else stayed at either of these hotels recently? Any other suggestions -- don't want to pay $250+ for the Hilton in TA or the King David in Jerusalem... Thanks for any recommendations. P.S. I'm not a fan of the Dan in Tel Aviv, which I think is cold & dark & has an uninviting pool area.

In Jerusalem, we stayed at the Eldan Hotel and were quite pleased. It is located across the street from the King David, next to the YMCA. The price was $120 per night, but they have a deal that each third night is free, so the effective price for a 3 night stay is $80 per night.

In Tel Aviv, we stayed at the Cinema Hotel, right on Diezengoff Square (about 6 blocks from the beach). It is part of the Atlas chain of hotels. It was about $90 per night. Another similiar Atlas hotel, but closer to the beach (just across the street) is the Basel, same proce range.

I don't know anything about the Sheraton in Jerusalem.

I do know of the 3 Sheratons in Tel Aviv.

You should stay in one of these two:

Sheraton Tel Aviv Hotel and Towers on 115 Hayarkon st., on the beach, always known as one of Tel Aviv's best.

Or the City Tower, in Ramat Gan (just across the "border" from Tel Aviv), which is newer and quite fancy.

We stay at the Yamit Plaza on Hayarkon just down the street from the Dan and like it very much. Much more cheerful and informal than the Dan, cheaper than the Sheraton et al. We've also stayed at the Cinema Hotel and enjoyed it, but it's not in the same class as the others.

Avoid Sheratons in Israel. These are the worst Sheratons I ever seen. Especially one on Tiberias. I cannot believe that "S" sign is legaly on that hotel. It is total dump.

Mamamia, Have you stayed in the Sheraton Tel Aviv on Hayarkon recently? I know it from many years ago, but from other posters I am concerned it has become run down recently. Would like to hear from others who have stayed there recently. Thanks. Also the Sheraton Jerusalem Plaza.
