Hotel in Marrakesh?

There are many to recommend, but a few questions first.
-- first time to Morocco?
-- price range?
-- amenities required?
-- do you want a "modern type" of hotel, or do you want to stay in a riad, which is a small and intimate experience?
-- do you want to stay inside the medina, or outside?
-- anything else we should know about your choice?
Marrakesh has so many hotels to choose from, and it would really help to have a bit more information.

We absolutely loved Dar Taliwint. Not directly on the Square, but really charming and great hosts. If what you're looking for is a riad experience this was great.
We actually moved to there from Dar Soukaina. It has some great reviews, but it just felt really budgety (and the orange tree in the courtyard is a fly magnet!), for pretty much the same price.

To answer your questions:
- Yes. First time in Morocco.
- Moderate price range. From what I've seen the prices are very reasonable. We don't need 5 star delux or anything. Just something nice, safe, clean, and culturally charming (as in not a typical US chain hotel, if that makes sense).
-Private Bath.
- I think the riad would be very nice & more up our alley, so to speak. However, I would like a nice and safe one.
-I need to do more research to know whether or not we want to stay inside the medina.

I am unfortunately away from my home computer right now, and so can't look up in which riad we stayed. However, I have located the website we used to identify the place we stayed. It's

One of the things that we loved was staying in the Medina. It's really a lovely and interesting way to go. And staying in a riad is such a great experience. Very lush and opulent and unusual. I believe all the "hotels" are located in the outskirts of town where they had more land to work with. We went to one hotel for a drink, and although it was truly lovely, it could have been anywhere.
The one thing I did remember when using this site is that you have to pay attention to any notation about payment form. We thought that our riad would take credit cards, and in fact they would only take cash. That presented an interesting problem when we were checking out!
The pictures we saw on this website were very useful, and found more information than on Trip Advisor. You can make reservations directly on the website. I believe all the riads we looked at had bathrooms in the room. All the riads we stayed in in Morocco ended up being wonderful, very large rooms, beautiful buildings, and great breakfasts. Morocco is very hospitable in that way.
Do bring copies of every single communication you have with any riad or hotel.
I know this is not giving you a specific recommendation, but I hope at least the website helps. I have mentioned the riad we stayed at in another thread, but searching on my name is not bringing that up right now.

Okay! I finally found the riad where we stayed. It's Riad Safar, and it's on the website I referred to above. If you look at that Riad, you will see that they have pictures over on the right. If you look through all of them, you will see a room that's all in blue and white and has a painting of Lawrence of Arabia. That's the room we stayed in and it was fantastic. Huge room and a huge bathroom with great touches (wonderful soaps and oils).
Great location in the medina. When we stayed there, they did not take credit cards, so plan for that with your ATM visits!
We did not have any of our dinners there, and so can't comment on that. But the breakfasts were delicious.

My husband & I stayed at Riad Celia http://www.riadcelia.com/en-home.html and liked it. The room was a little small, but it was clean safe, and affordable. It was only a 5-10 minute walk from Jemaa el Fna.
We also looked at Riad Jonan, but they were booked some of the days we were there. It looks nice though. http://www.riadjonan.com/
