Checking luggage thru to Nairobi?

We are leaving 6/10, flying on American from Houston to Brussels. We fly from Brussels to Nairobi on SN Brussels. Can I check the luggage thru to Nairobi in Houston and expect it to arrive with me or would it be better to pick up the luggage in Brussels and recheck on SN Brussels.

Thanks to all ya'll for the good information found on this board. We told our 11 yr grandaughter that we would take her on a trip of her choosing. She's an animal girl and chose an African safari.

Carol

You can check your bags all the way through to Nairobi and expect them to be there on arrival. I'd through check to avoid the hassle of having to go through immigration, retrieve your bags and recheck with SN Brussels.

There's always the chance that your bags will be delayed on any flight connection or even without a connection. AA managed to leave my bags in LAX on a nonstop flight to HNL in January.

For that reason, I usually bring at least one change of clothes in my carry-on and whatever else I think I'll need for the first 24-48 hours at my destination, except of course on that LAX-HNL flight, but it made for a good excuse to go shopping

Carol,
I'd check it all the way through. Did it before and found it much easier (traveled through Heathrow not Brussels). Keep your meds, camera, binocs and other very impt. objects in your carryon. Otherwise just don't worry and have a great trip!

You realize you will be the one responsible for your granddaughter's Africa addiction starting at such an early age!

What a nice grandmother-granddaughter adventure. She chose very wisely. I'd take with me everything I could. Check the rest.

Maybe your granddaughter would like to write a trip report to post upon your return.
